I'm referring more to his tendency to sit and watch while bad things happen only to intervene after things have gone awry.
Often he holds himself back to let others gain experience, that's a recurring theme. Sometimes it does work out just fine without intervention.

I wonder why they made it different from the WN... originally it was only Baul (or Paul, when using google translate on the WN), and like here he abandons the students immediately when he sees they've been surrounded by orcs. There's no knight witnesses when the skeletons rescue the 5 students.

I know this a little stretch, but I felt kinda bad for the kobold. Like they just got killed asap and had an injured. Like they look scary but what if the were neutral? They didn't even fight back when they saw the humans

Things change even from WN to LN, so it shouldn't be a surprise. A lot of mangas change a few things here and there when adapting a novel

I know, but I'm specifically wondering "why"... as in, are they just doing it to compress the story?... or are they going to go so far as to make the characters personalities entirely different? If they do change their personalities, are they doing it with a specific intention, or are they just winging it randomly and hoping nobody thinks it's strange?

Based on Ch22, I think they're winging it randomly. Unfortunately what they did has turned out to be very strange.

The captured knight explains how "Lady Camilla is our hope."... and Kent even says she's saying the same things as Eruna. But then, why the hell would Eruna BETRAY CAMILLA by keeping quiet about this kid that plans to release all of his friends that Camilla went so far to secure as a workforce/military asset? Even if she weren't "our hope", Camilla is still a Princess. How could a maid working directly under a member of the royal family have such weak loyalty that she'd fail to report this situation?

I don't mind the addition of the captured knight being used to get info. It's a much faster and easier to explain way to do it than what happened in the WN. However revealing the truth to the maid makes zero sense.

I'm also not completely satisfied with the captured knight's personality... but I'm letting it slide considering she's at their mercy because of the slave bracelet & the fact that Kent did technically save her life.
