Kohai san was really petty there. If all those actions don't show her character, I don't know what would. I mean, she thinks a romantic relationship would ideally start by people not being honest with each other... She's basically treating the object of attraction as, well, an object.
And if there was love, a person he's taking care of wouldn't be a problem at all. Why would he had to kick Sayu out? If it were to progress to the point of Gotou and him living together, then they'd just have to find another apartment for that one just isn't fit for more people. Is it really that complicated?

I had some respect for the kouhai at first, BUT WHY THE FUCK IS SHE TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT SHE HAS NO RELATION TO?!?!? She's on about things you should "normally do" in that sort of situation, but that's so irrational, because everyone does things their own way. What a fucking idiot. Why does the author portray women to be so emotionally unstable? I get that she loves him, but damn, when did you become his fucking therapist?

Call me stupid, but i didn't get most of what the kouhai said.
My god, i f-ing hate cliffhangers like this, it just makes me nervous.
I wish that MC could adopt Sayu, but that probably isn't going to happen, never.
Also, what kind of dipshit would leave a person in necesity for some puss/D?

About the ending of chapter 16 and the last panel of this one:

I'm guessing Sayu has left to face her past or will do so in no time.
What I do not get is why would anyone in Sayu's boots go face their past in that situation.
It has been fuck knows how long (let's say 2-14 weeks) since she dissapeared from her former family/friends/etc group and, I'm guessing MC or Kouhai have done their research, no-fucking-body has told the police about her dissapearance.
Just go to the equivalent of a CPS, tell them you ran away from home 3 months ago and that no one has reported your dissapearance to the police. They will help you better than anyone could and 99% sure you won't get sent back.
Not caring for your child having dissapeared for longer than the legal minimun for the police to take action is a big shiny fucking red flag for anyone working for Child Protective Services.

At least give us a reason why she would not do that 😑

@toydamashi That isn't always the path to the best outcome though buddy.
Example:My mother was raised by her grandmother for many years after her birth because her mother decided she wasn't ready for kids. Her mother then decided to take her back forcefully and then a few years later once again decided she didn't want her and gave her to the foster system. This example ends with me pointing out that the father from one of her foster homes during that experience was arrested a few years ago for molesting his granddaughter.......

@Richman She pointed out that if he wants to play this nice guy act that he does now, he'll eventually loose Gotou and fall in love with Sayu. On a long term, he can't keep things as they are now, which is already apparent from the last pages.

Page 35-36 kind of make his feelings obvious.

>I can't picture a life without Sayu.

Like, if we assume he is being 100% honest and has NO romantic feelings for Sayu (like actually doesn't have them, not just ignoring them), I feel like it makes his actual feelings pretty obvious. He thinks of her like an adopted/foster daughter. He still sees himself marrying Gotou, but he sees himself taking care of Sayu. How hard is it just to go "Hm, maybe I wanna be a dad?"

And if it's not that and he is lying to himself, then he obviously loves her. Because obviously he can see his life without Gotou, but not Sayu.

@Sheoldread My thoughts exactly. Mishima thinks hiding Sayu would be a good idea to develop a relationship with Gotou but doesn't realise that Gotou can kind of see through the MC, which is how it got to the point of Gotou meeting Sayu. Mishima is also trying to tell the MC's feelings to the MC, as if she's in his damn head. I lost it at the point she tried to explain the MC's own feelings to him. Mishima is going the wrong way if she's trying to get the MC's attention.

setting aside opinions on the girls themselves, the problem with this chapter is actually we've already heard this before last chapter. if we stuck to either Sayu or Yoshida's perspective, we'd get the same dialog with the same ultimatum. we get both which makes it seems we're just spinning our wheels as readers. i guess this is a good reason to have flashbacks scenes instead of simultaneous chapters. now kouhai (who has been relatively unstained from negative vibes) looks like a stalker and bad mouthing characters who had just reached an understanding last chapter.

but the real moral is bitches ain't nothing but hoes and tricks.

Well, just think about her as a daughter. That makes things easier.

If Gotou likes you and trusts you, I don't think this could be a problem.

hm I don't understand why it has to be romantic feelings with regards to sayu? You can care for a girl or a woman and want them to stay in your life without having romantic feelings. The issue is that of course she is a minor and a runaway which makes this situation really tricky. Well, that said if this whole charade of him realizing how he feels about Sayu gets a thot snek like Gotou out of his life then I'm okay with that.

Anyways, I think the main point to be said after hearing the conversation between Sayu and Gouto, and MC and Kouhai, is that the guardian relationship with Sayu is unhealthy for the both of them. Which is obvious but I guess had to be put into words for these characters to get it.

Kouhai spitting straight facts, but Mc to dense to grasp what she’s getting at. (And si are many other in the comment section lol)
Gotou is just hot but really meh for rejecting MC for no reason only to want him again.

And Sayu is trying to figure things out.
