People saying this is dragging out are also the same people who would literally follow 400 chapters of a "will they won't they" no stakes slop with awe in their eyes while commenting "GET MARRIED ALREADY!!!!!11" after every single chapter.

Start reading something that is not a romcom slop for once.

In fairness will they won't they is a genre of romance. This is just a flashback that's gone on for 3 months and we already got all of the context from it like a month ago, if the flashback provided more information it wouldn't be as bad.
At least with a will they won't they the main entertainment is meant to be that tease, this is just an egregiously long flashback.

Y'know I honestly welcome this development. Romcom become stale after a while, it tends to happen, this definitely not

We didn't. We still don't know when Yami learned Yuu was Hikari's crush (it looks like ch.11 but not exactly sure) and why they broken up as well. We also still missing the most important POV which is Yuu.

There are still things to explore before getting back to Hikari.

if the flashback provided more information it wouldn't be as bad.

It's been literally 5 chapters (7-8 pages per ch. so more like 2,5 chapters). For manga standards, its already pretty short for a flashback arc.

The purpose of the flashback is not just providing context, but more importantly, building up two other characters and their relationship. Which it does successfully.

I'm really surprised (well, not really) people are complaining about things dragging out now while they were fine with first chapters going on a three pages per week pace where absolutely nothing was happening. It almost sounds like there is some sort of bias here.

To add to that, we're yet to see how Hikari became Yami's "best friend"

Ch.11 is the best bet when Yami gets confirmation of who Yuu's crush is. But until that happens, it's literally up in the air, unless the author decides that Yami always suspected it was Hikari while friends with her but was in denial about it.

If you forget the entire existence of the childhood friend than this is quite decent love story

we still in the past. I need the future to see what is going to happen.
I started to get a feeling we will be here for another long while.

The pattern I see is, first volume are Hikari's arc -- the first FMC. And now we are in 2nd FMC's arc -- Ayami. We got Hikari's cute portrait as first volume cover; I suspect we'll see Ayami portrait as second volume's (feeling tells me it's gonna be maroon red backgrond vs Hikari's mint/teal) and her arc will cover the whole volume -- so another 20-something chapters.

Base on that scenario, we'll probably see the breakup in another 5-7 chapters from now, then what went on during Hikari's arc in the remaining chapters, a few chapters towards the end on what Ayami were doing during the first half of the day of the festival and converge back at the classroom about the end of volume 2. Then volume 3 for the aftermath and probably the end (Yuu on the cover here, light blue background? idk)

That's what I can see as the author's plan.

You all keep misspelling "BSS" and I don't know why.

EDIT: And it honestly isn't even that.
She loved him long before Aya- wait a second, didn't Hikari catch feelings for Yuu only recently? Sure, they've been childhood friends for so long, but IIRC Hikari herself said she felt nothing about him for a long time, and if he confessed to her at some point before high school it would've ended in rejection for him.

So I guess Hikari can't even cry BSS since Ayami technically loved Yuu first...? :kek:
Sorry Hikari, but I've never really been a fan of frustratingly slow romances where couples only date in the final chapter. Even more so when love rivals are a thing. You snooze, you lose...

Yes, like previously mentioned, things like BSS and NTR only makes sense if the target is Yami not Hikari. Hikari didn't give a single fuck about Yuu's existence until like 5 months ago when story started. At that point Yami and Yuu were already well in to their relationship.

WN goes more in to details about it but she truely didn't care about him and even played the messenger for other girls who wanted to ask him out though he apperantly refused every time. She is now regretful about her actions. Not that it will help this late in to the game though.

How can anyone blame the guy for moving on?

Find it utterly hilarious that the author actually goes on Twitter to clarify things for the readers. At this point I have zero investment in the story but all the investment into the discourse within this fan base.

I have now gone full circle from thinking initially that the author was good, to terrible to now an absolute genius - this is like rental GF levels of drawing insane engagement within the fan base via discourse.

Ofc Occam's razor is that the author just fucked up with their extremely wild idea of rearranging the story (the fact they go out on Twitter to clarify things just shows further that they're not that confident) and then it just kind of ended up that the insane outrage ended up generating engagement. Tho as I understand the outrage is more on the western readership side.

(Btw, I love how I keep finding you in all the same comment sections where we both hate the manga and are just bashing the nonsense. Masochism is such a funny thing)
Honestly, I don't hate this one, but I’m not a fan of the execution. With the author juggling so many plot elements, I’m curious to see if it will have a realistic ending or fall into the cliché where friendship wins out in the end.

I can't see how Ayami and Hikari’s friendship could survive this, nor do I see how Hikari can continue to pursue Yuu. As far as I’m concerned, Ayami and Yuu could end up together as long as Hikari is no longer involved with them. People might see this as a win for Ayami, but to me, it would be a loss for both her and Yuu if they end up losing Hikari from their lives.

I get why they're upset, but I don't get why they're still complaining when, like... the story has been revealed. "It's a bit late, but I fell in love with my childhood friend" didn't make sense as a title until these chapters. Seemed pretty on time, honestly. It took her a bit, but they're both together at school now and they're getting along and seems like stuff is fine. Then we learn, in what WOULD be a Vol. 1 ending twist: oh. He's already has/had a relationship with someone else, and it feels meaningful.

THIS is the story. Understanding what happened in this relationship is the other key to this whole thing. We know what his relationship to his childhood friend is like, now we're learning what his relationship with the sempai is like. It's honestly... really good. She's found a place she can finally belong, and now she's terrified of losing it. She's avoiding going to school because she doesn't want to know who his childhood friend is, because that'd make everything harder. She's taking back the life stolen from her by her stepfather. She's becoming normal, someone worthy of being by this normal boy's side. It's good.

I can understand why someone wouldn't like the twist. But if I was reading "I just realized it now, but I think my sempai is a serial killer" and up until a certain chapter it seemed like it was just a totally normal school love story until the female lead watched her sempai cutting up the body of a homeless man who disappeared, I would not be going "OKAY WHAT THE FUCK, GET BACK TO THE ROMANCE PART ALREADY COME ON" because like... this was what was promised. The title, and thus the hook, is "it's a bit late." It didn't seem to make any sense up until the chapter everyone hates.

Personally as someone who was here for the inexperienced girl gets together with her childhood friend part, this reveal of the MAIN plot really didn't sit right with me at first but it kinda makes sense reading the previous chapters why she had to try so hard to get any reaction out of him as opposed to your usual "oh i've never talked to a girl how should I react" bit that every romance manga does, it's refreshing to see. I don't really care about these two honestly I will just stick around to see what will hikari's reaction will be, i just want her to move on after seeing these two which likely won't happen given the author of this manga but until then the comment section will remain my source of entertainment. It's really funny to see people malding and arguing for a romance manga plot lmao

I don't think Yuu's pov is important at all and not everything has to be answered with one flashback (that's been going on for 3 months.) we need a break from it otherwise the build up will fizzle out like it is.

5 chapters in 3 months, it could of been 30 chapters in 3 months and it would still be too long. It's taken too long in irl time and people are clearly getting bored of this flashback, continue it later we don't need to know everything yet.
