Holy shit as a Yuu hater I just typed up a little essay and basically gaslit myself into liking Yami as a character and hating Yuu even more?

TLDR; If you want to play with fire (Yami) then getting burnt is on you and Yuu is the reason both Yami and Hikari are even crashing out in the first place
This might be the hottest take here but in my opinion Yuu is objectively the worst person here. is Yami a complete and total bitch? absolutely, but both of them KNEW that going in when they met her and they're the ones who forced their way into relationships with her even after the shit she pulled on them. You don't get to put your hand over a fire and cry because it burns you. I also want to argue that her perspective is crashing out because it turns out the only guy she's ever liked is childhood friends with the person who's basically her only friend and not only do they like each other, but she basically got in between them and got pushed aside anyway. It makes perfect sense that a damaged character like her would self destruct and lash out.

On the other hand, Yuu has no fucking balls and never actually takes into consideration anyone's feelings but his own because he only cares about himself and what he wants. It's crazy to me how many people give Yuu a pass for sleeping with Yami while he was crushing on Hikari just because he's a teenager like he can't have any self control or self respect. Not to mention the fact that he did make 0 effort to reach out or check on Yami at any point after she cut him off? literally 0 effort? You can't even say he was respecting her wishes because as soon as he saw her again he jumped right back into it. There's also all of the lying by omission on top of the straight up lying out of convenience. Yuu is absolutely not innocent nor is he the one who got the short end of the stick out of the three of them. He's the only one here who had the agency to do the right thing multiple times and fail at every given opportunity.

Hikari is definitely the best person here which is ironically what her flaw is. No one told her to extend a hand out to Yami and she really should have taken the hint after the compensated dating fiasco but she didn't; and arguably her friendship with Yami wouldn't have ever even had an issue without the existence of Yuu but here we are. Even now she's trying to do the right thing and help out the relationship between Yami and Yuu at the cost of her own happiness (even if she'd 100% be better off cutting them both out of her life and moving on).

I think this chapter was pretty good and summed up the gist of the plot and characters pretty well. Yami is damaged and self destructive so she pushes people away, Yuu deserves everything that happens to him for being so indecisive and cowardly, and Hikari was too passive and willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, so now she has to deal with both of their flaws.

Hikari also had the perfect point as to why I'm a Yuu hater out of all of them: in her mind Yuu would never have done any of that if he didn't have feelings for Yami. In other words while crushing on Hikari he decided to go for the girl he had a shot with and caught feelings, then came crawling back when it didn't work out because he didn't really care that much in the first place compared to Hikari, except he also downplayed it hard and shrugged off his relationship with Yami now that he knew he had a chance with his original crush. He basically caused the entire crashout for all parties.
NOW YOU KNOW I FELT LAST CHAPTER LMAFO. THIS MANGA MAKES YOU WRITE ESSAYS

but for real, I still think Yami is the worst between her and yuu. Im open to yuu growing and getting some redemption, but he does not derserve hikari. Litterally yuu and yami should just get back together and let hikari find someone actually good for her.

This chapter is even further evidence for how lopsided Hikari and Yuu's "friendship" is. They're both interested in each other, yet only one of the two is even bothering to consider the feelings of the other with a cool head. He's not as much of a victim as people are trying to say he is, and this whole blowout could have been greatly diminished if he would have stopped thinking with his dick for just a few seconds and see how obviously now wasn't the time to confess due to something clearly being wrong with his "friend".
Exactly.Thats the thing I find reprehensive about the guy and how I dont fully support people that say all the blame is on Yami... Only like 95%.
The fact is while Yuu didnt initiate all that mess. I cant but think he never closed cycle with Yami. Considering he dated her, lost his virginity with her, and then got dumped/ghosted, its totally normal.
My point, though, he still considered her enough in a good light to be worried instead of angry with her when they met, he totally wanted to at least be her friend to the point of asking her contact info. And after the kiss and Yami's words he even cried.
Bro still had and possibly still has some feelings for Yami.
Again, its normal... But whats not normal is him deciding to still confess to Hikari after that.
He should have aborted that whole plan and take some time to re-think stuff and get really over his feelings for Yami. Otherwise, it feels like he had some delayed rebound making him to confess to Hikari on impulse to get over Yami. It feels like the confession is fake.
And I think thats why Hikari rejected him. She likely arrived to a simmilar conclusion than me, and must be thinking Yuu still loves Yami.

They don't have any shared friend he could try asking.
He knew Hikari went to her school and is the type to know everyone - I think Hikari even knew Aya's old last name. Granted this manga would have like no conflict if Yuu was willing to be open w/ Hikari about Aya.

Here comes chaotic comments in 3....2.....1

But for real tho, Yuu is kinda innocent in this matter, literally a victim of circumtances.
I still don't understand why people kept blindly siding with Hikari as if she's the only main protagonist here, both She and Aya are equals.
It's because people aren't used to reality coming at them - and manga/manhwa most definitely doesn't portray real life commonly. Someone having baggage and an ex? Totally normal, especially at a young age where you still go to the same schools commonly. Aya and Hikari happening to be classmates/friends - also not that uncommon, but definitely "for plot" but either way the premise is so real and angsty that I love it.

Ultimately this all stems from the fact that people are upset still about the jebait on this series going from a typical HS romcom in the first half into an angsty drama in the second - though I find it incredibly interesting and unique. Part 1 is just Hikari's teenage innocent fantasy world and part 2 is reality hitting like a truck.

Oh, that would be on the hope that she went back to school too, because during their time dating she never did. The reason she went back to school after they broke up is because spending time with her mom at home was becoming unbearable.

Hikari lowkey provoking Aya with naivety dressed up as kindness here. Aya is being a piece of shit (as usual - with reason, yes, as she is a troubled youth, but nonetheless shitty) and fym "What should WE do" 😭 isn't that the girl that YOU like? Props to the author for writing somewhat realistic dumpster fire teenage relationships, even if they are incredibly unsatisfying developments and a complete shitshow since I've been hate(?)-reading it for the past couple of chapters

It's super common for folks scared of losing people they care about to push them away preemptively—it both feeds into their low self esteem (these people are so good and I'm trash, they shouldn't be around me) and let's them hurt themselves in a way that feels less painful than someone leaving them of their own accord because they can control it.

That's part of what Yami's falling back on here. She also doesn't want to admit that she genuinely likes Yuu because that would mean she has to hurt Aya to try and pursue him, and she's fairly sure she'd lose anyway since she thinks he's over her after she cut him off (again due to insecurity and fear of commitment).

But she's not perfect and couldn't keep herself from getting mad at Yuu for not fighting past her own bad behavior. It's not a reasonable anger but it is a genuine one.

Her kiss was IMO her being caught after being genuine about that anger to Yuu and choosing to make herself a villain in a way that could maybe let Yuu and Aya reconcile and leave her behind without having to face her real feelings for You.

That's why she's so inconsistent and shitty: she fears rejection and these two fought past that to the point that she cared for both of them, and without resolving why she fears rejection she's just doubling down on that fear in increasingly destructive ways.

Also she's a teenager from a broken family like yeah of course she makes shitty choices, that's the whole point of her.

Lord, don't I know it regarding writing essays.

Part of me hopes this whole thing culminates in Hikari convincing Yami to be 100% honest (for once) and go to Yuu only for Yuu to soundly reject her romantically. Then Yuu goes back to Hikari and is 100% honest and asks her out only for Hikari to tell him to pound sand.

Fantasy aside, I think what Hikari is doing is not so much trying to get Yuu and Yami together but rather trying to help Yami to realize her true feelings and be honest/vulnerable. Whether Hikari is doing that because she still sees Yami as a friend or she's being kind in honor of their past friendship I'm not sure. I think what Hikari wants is the air cleared between Yuu and Yami and for them to actually have an honest talk and sort their feelings out and whatever happens happens.

Not sure if Hikari is hoping Yuu rejects Yami. We're not getting much insight into what Hikari is thinking regarding Yuu at this moment. (Yes, I realize we had the "I hate liars" moment but Hikari is showing Yami grace and I figure she's also going to show grace to Yuu as well). Knowing how Hikari has acted in the past, I can see her forgiving both of them if they become honest with her. Not sure if that means romance is still an option between her and Yuu and I'm not sure how I feel about that at this time.

I just really wish we had like at least one chapter of flashbacks to moments in Yuu's life with his POV. I just can't help but give Yuu some benefit of the doubt because I don't know 100% what's going on in his brain. I really want some insight because I can't really relate to him at all. I just want to throttle him.

Is more what Aya tried to do and is super resentful it didn't seem to work.
I think this novel mangas writing is fantastic simple yet very unpredictable the foreshadowing and all is done so cunningly I don't think he's done with the foreshadowing yet, if you don't look at the flashbacks since chpt 21 we've kept on predicting using the concept of light dark and dusk of complex situations and most of the time it's wrong it's like on the tip of our fingers yet we choose to make more assumptions and predictions that are wrong but it's pretty straightforward compared to other drama mangas anime novels who knows pt 4 is dusk/yuus arc and we finally get into his head idk what author san is cooking but LET HIM COOK!!!
Also I'm not gonna ignore all the small details this time from chpt 22-41 there might be small hint of detail that we might get for the coming chapters
Btw when do you think this manga will be back from it's hiatus since author san is taking a break?

how did people even like her in the first place
Going by the comments, a lot of them where just saying they where Yami fans to troll people for the fun of it and didn't actually mean it, these people's opinions can be ignored as background noise, do not pay attention to them.

Now then, the people who DID actually mean it legit seem to identify with her suffering, possibly cause they have seen actual examples of that type of emotional self-harm IRL, or that they forgive her screw ups cause she is a teen, and teens do mess up a lot.
