Other dude who doesn´t want to realize the real reason why Hikari fell in love with Yuu is because he got a girlfriend and he later was dumped by her. Hikari prefers guys with... experience.
I feel like these recent chapters are really taking the teeth out of the awesome tension and drama from the blow up.
Like we're heading back into the Disney-style world we came from when this started where there will be no real consequences for anyone despite what's happened, and the tonal shift was just for show.
Perfectly put. Watch the miracle unfold as she randomly can graduate without getting the well needed help of actual professionals (in multiple ways) and adults cuz Hikari and Yuu saved her! And everyone will be happy together when they should go their own ways.
She is beyond selfdestructive, she pulled two others down into her hole but none of that matters since Yuu is a doll that barely acts and Hikari, once again, has to be literal posivibes~ Jesus and sacrifice herself even when they spit and kick in her face. But calling it a bait and switch = reading comprehension!!!
Thabks for the translation.
That was a pretty decent chapter, even if a bit short. I hope they can help yami out, but i doubt the effectiveness of this approach.
Yami is the best girl and she deserves happiness. Looks like we will see her and Yuu again. Hikari is too made to be an angel, and fans are eating it up. Her not ending with Yuu could be a great thing and development. It would be fitting to how she is depicted. Give us more Yami and Yuu. We love flawed and complex characters. Hope they heal together. Yami x Yuu endgame pls.
Karaokapology? Karapoloke? Karaopy? After all the drama, it's nice getting a chapter where people are SHOUTING into microphones. Probably overloading the speakers and making it unintelligible. Funny!
I’ve been debating whether to make this post, because honestly, I don’t want to deal with Yuu self-inserts. I thought Yami simps were bad, but Yuu self-inserts are even worse.
But since the forum’s manga discussion section has its days counted, I decided to make the most of it and put out as many informative posts as I can.
So, here’s the estimated sales data for the physical volumes of the official release.
According to Shoseki ranking data, which estimates physical manga volume sales, the first volume, released on August 8, 2025, sold approximately 12,075 copies in its first month, while the second volume, released on March 10, 2026, sold around 8,140 in the same period. That’s a 32.6% drop from Volume 1 to Volume 2.
Here’s a graph:
As for the novel, according to data shared by @Josu_ke on X, which is based on ORICON’s physical sales data, Volume 1 sold 6,496 copies and appears on the August 2025 list. However, Volume 2 does not appear on the March 2026 list. The lowest-selling novel that still made that list sold 5,439 copies, so the only conclusion we can draw is that Volume 2 sold fewer than that.
The August 2025 and March 2026 lists are shown below. I’ll put them inside spoiler buttons to save space.
That’s all I wanted to share. As for why the sales dropped, I’ll leave that up to you. I’d rather not get into it.
I think it did in that the characterizations were in place such that within the universe it was organic?
What I mean is Hikari's characterization to that point was optimistic go getter who of course would build up the event and press Yuu to come, Yuu's characterization as go with the flow and conflict avoidant is someone who would absolutely cave to Hikari and not give her a heads up about Aya or want to discuss it afterward, and Aya's characterization as impulsive and reckless (the whole relationship with Yuu, the prank on Hikari) and self-destructive (the attempts at paid dating, the ghosting, later we find out the ditching all her old friends) and closed off is someone for whom the actions she took at the festival are the most natural.
Basically the festival went down the way it'd most make sense to for the characters Maruto wrote.
I KNEW IT. I BEEN KNEW THAT HIKARI LIKE AYA ROMANTICALLY AND THE ONLY REASON SHE KEPT TRYING TO BE HER FRIEND EVEN AFTER THE HORRIBLE SHIT SHES DONE TO HER WAS BECAUSE SHE LIKED HER.
Hikari full of shit. She never like Yuu and gave aya a bigger leash while aya was horrible to her. I have to hear about how much an angel she is because she naive and she always like aya romantically and the only reason she would go this far for anyone. If yuu and aya was switched I promise she would left him to die
Thank you dusky people are praising her. If she wasn’t a lovestruck naive lesbo she wouldn’t even been friends with Yami. From the jokes to Yami literally yelling at her to leave her alone is more than enough to get a girl to not be around another girl but since she want to find her “darkness” we’re stuck with this
I think always has been in that Aya and Hikari were always the protags & Yuu's kinda just the vehicle for conflict between them? Also then it's just Hikari choosing the traumatized one over the mostly well adjusted one & that's (um) probably 90% of shoujo love triangles.
Didn't he also say at one point that he wanted this to be a tragedy? Credit to the characterization that it can organically get there, but I thought this was the plan.
Yeah, of course. What I mean is, by the time it happened, readers couldn't say "since Yami is this kind of person, I can see why she did this and how this even happened". We simply didn't know much about her and didn't follow her plotline. I could imagine it working this way in Maruto's head, but I think he already said in some interview that he came up with the idea of that festival drama early on, so their "free will" could only lead them all to that event.
But by now we know what kind of people Hikari, Yami and even Yuu are, so from now on there is a range of actions we would expect from them, and also a range of actions that would seem like they came out of nowhere. And we will also be able to tell if events happened naturally, because of all the decisions characters took, or because of some plot device. I do prefer it when the drama results from the former, that's why I didn't like the whole Yami's mother suicide attempt thing.
I KNEW IT. I BEEN KNEW THAT HIKARI LIKE AYA ROMANTICALLY AND THE ONLY REASON SHE KEPT TRYING TO BE HER FRIEND EVEN AFTER THE HORRIBLE SHIT SHES DONE TO HER WAS BECAUSE SHE LIKED HER.
I mean, even in chapter 21 the main real reason why Hikari is upset is not because Yuu really had a toxic ex girlfriend after all, but because that toxic ex girlfriend is "Aya-chan". Hikari is the last person in the universe who can blames Yuu for fall in love with Yami and Hikari knows it.
That's one of the reasons why I prefer to think that Yami's mother's suicide attempt was because she got a call from the hotel telling her that her daughter was having sex with Yuu. That way it would be more organic and not so out of nowhere, and it would also show that Yami's impulsive decisions did have real and natural consequences, that Yami's mother actually has something legitimate to complain about and not just that she's a crazy woman who somehow misses her rapist, abusive, womanizer ex-husband.
That being said, yes, it felt like Maruto's way of whitewashing Yami, just like he whitewashed Kazusa in Introductory Chapter when he had Setsuna see Kazusa kissing a sleeping Haruki, and this was the trigger for her to betray Kazusa and confess to Haruki.
This was partly due to Ayami broke the unspoken agreements between Yuu and Hikari established during the summer festival arc. Neither of them expected Yuu's toxic ex-girlfriend to became Hikari's best friend, and this was the turning point.
Anyway, I'll say it again: Yuu handled that unexpected argument with Ayami remarkably well, considering everything. GennArc knows very well how Haruki would have likely messed things up much worse than Yuu Takamura did in that confrontation with Ayami in chapter 40.
I’ve been debating whether to make this post, because honestly, I don’t want to deal with Yuu self-inserts. I thought Yami simps were bad, but Yuu self-inserts are even worse.
Litreara's least misandrist comment.
Seriously, I still want to know how the only one of the three characters who has never resorted to violence is somehow the worst one and has the worst fandom.
Anyway, I recommend you NEVER see Shikimori is not just a cutie, if you disliked Yuu Takamura, you will hate even more to Yuu Izumi, the male lead from that series.
I swear to God if this ends with a throuple I'll f#cking riot.
She need help, of the psychological and probably psychiatric persuasions.
(a psychologist can diagnose and often do talk therapy, a psychiatrist can prescribe drugs/medications in addition to that, [rattles pill bottle] ask me how I know)
Psychologists also have a better grasp of human nature where as a psychiatrist has generations of trial and error in prescribing medications to treat psychiatric conditions and is closer to an engineer then a doctor. Also (shakes pill bottles one by one) (turns phone around to show watched jordan Peterson videos) ask me how I know.
