Hello, I am Hornet, one of the members of Project D Scans. At this time we are planning to try and re-scan and re-translate the ENTIRETY of Initial D. We are a small team so it might take some time to fully get through it but we want to keep a good pace going.

Okay, I heard a lot about this manga, so this is a good way for me to start reading it
And I am already confused. This half-autist MC doesn't know a model of car, though he's driving it for 5 years? How old is he: 16, 17? Can he be riding it from 12?
And why is he afraid on the backseat? Doesn't he drive each time to the mountain at the same speed?
This is way too illogical.

@VINT64 Initial D often references a car by its model number rather than the model name.
Anyway, it's nice to visit the burning hot Akina nights of 199X again. I still got a bunch of the Tokyopop volumes from way back when, but damn did the translation quality drop like a stone after the first one. "First Stage" will always be the best in my eyes. I'd almost forgotten how... normal, Itsuki looked in the early artwork.

Ah yes, after reading it side by side with previous scanlations, there are some words that written past the bubble words which is just need a little fix and done.
As for the translation, it did MUCH BETTER than the previous one, albeit sometimes it way too much word in there like when Takumi talking to Itsuki's dad car, it was a bit too much there since you can short it to " Dad's car? Hell no! Its an automatic and FWD/FF! The engine's diesel too!" No need for "it's a nightmare" since Itsuki already said on the last bubble word which is more than enough.
And when Itsuki talking back to takumi about what's so fun on attacking mountain passes. it was had weird translations like
"You're a man but you dont see the fun in attacking the touge?" which is very strange to my ear.
Previous one is much better translated on that word and its much easier to understand than this one since this one was messed up if we read that word.
As for someone who say thank you to the customers, we always say "Thank you, please come again!", not "Thank you, come again!' which is messed up since I have my own store and I always said like that to customers to express our gratitude for coming to our stores.
When Yuichi ( Owner of Gas Station where Itsuki, Iketani, and Takumi currently work) asking for the place they're going to, Iketani said "It's only about 10 minutes drive", 10 minutes drive to WHERE??? To the Heaven/Hell???
Just put the exact location like " It's only about 10 minutes to go there" which is much more understanding.
That's all what I want to correct it on this chapter, you guys already did a good job although a bit mistake in here and there. But, nobody is perfect anyway and thanks for re-scan this awesome manga again.

I don't have JLPT certification (although one day, despite my major I hope to get JLPT 1), so there's gonna be mistakes. We're trying to minimize them as possible.
The "dad's car" line is as long as you see it, is pretty much translated word for word to express Itsuki's disdain. The "it's a nightmare" is there because there's plenty of moments in Initial D's raw where you find small handwritten text that is usually like muttered, or less important than the actual drive, such as Iketani's reason for why Akina is the best mountain to race on.
We did try messing around with the attacking the touge line, we figured it was best as it would give newer readers an idea of what the story is in this arc, Takumi figuring out why racing others on the mountain passes is a fun activity when he's only viewed it as a chore he has to do in order to come home faster.
The thank you come again is originally arigatou gozaimashita, and we didn't think "thank you very much!" was that great, so we went for a Simpson's Apu'd style line. Personally, I haven't heard "thank you, please come again!", but rather have a "nice day" in the US. For everyone else, as Hornet said, we do plan on redoing the entire manga. I came with a mission to release the "definitive" Initial D scan, and I wouldn't use the Project. D namesake if I were going to half-ass something like this. It does warm my heart that a lot of people appreciate this, because Initial D is something that I care about with a passion. This is a result of that. As for other racing manga, or even Initial D's sequel, MF GHOST, I do not want to get ahead of myself yet. We are a small team, and I want to see how much I can push out right now. I'm more than willing to talk about that at a later time, and possible open a discord to for people to give their feedback there directly if they want to.

@leosmileyface The plan (currently, subject to change) is at least one chapter a week minimum. I want to be able to do 2-3 a week, ideally. I'm going to release chapter 2 and 3 simultaneously once they're complete, hopefully sometime this weekend/early next week.
