I think some comments are confused about who is the grandfather of who :) my advice to you guys is to reread the chapter while remembering names.

I'm always astounded about the amount of powerful and influential families in manga, who's sole purpose for existing is to fuck with the love lifes of teenagers.

Fr fr, I know chopsticks are the most common way to eat food in Japan, but Eiji looks like an extraterrestrial being looking at cutlery for the first time in their lives.
Nahh, the confusion was j7st to do with the upper class cutlery tradition such as starting from the left? as you go through the courses. It can be really bad when there's like 4 forks all for different things 😮‍💨

Yeah this. Aoi grandparents agreed with marrying her with Eiji.

The old man in this chapter is Eiji's grandpa from his mom side. Remember that Eiji's parents has issue with their marriage due to social standing.

Safe to say the grandpa is still an asshole.

Honest question - are there many Japanese people who have never eaten with regular cutlery (knife & fork)? I've always thought that they're at least familiar with it, but MC looked extremely confused. Were those just nerves?
There is eating with a fork and knife and then there is doing so properly. Its very different from the standard way that people do it.

The “proper” method is by holding the fork in the left hand, having the arch of it up so the tines are down rather than flat and keeping it in that position/orientation. There is also how you go from the outermost silverware inwards as well.

I wasn't surprised when there's another rival
(though I WAS surprised when he turned out to be an ally. Hope we get more) but there's just HAD to be more drama. I Wouldn't be surprised if the most wholesome scene we can get is one page of them kissing alone at the end of the manga

MC burned himself to help others for so long and he still can't catch a break with all these rivals and forced drama lol.

These kids just can't get a break. Honestly, going from one dramatic situation to the next with little to no downtime is not how you keep people invested in your story. I dunno if this is a problem with the original LN or if they're just putting mostly the drama in the manga, but they need to chill a bit.

It always gets a chortle from me how they present rather plain/generic FMCs as these bastions of beauty, while at the same time showing us much more appealing girls in the background.
yeah but my yamato nadeshiko #581,729 is super special.

I expected a new love rival, so this fakeout actually got me good. Well, I suppose Michio was indeed a rival for a few minutes, but he decided to quit the game after hearing what Eiji had to say for himself and seeing Aoi vouch for him. He technically has the power to elbow Eiji out of the competition, but I guess he's a believer in love (Aoi wouldn't have loved him if he did that), and it helps that he's a fan of Eiji's dad too.

No opposition from the Jougasaki side (Aoi's family) who's actually backing them, but now it's the Nikaido clan's turn to play villain for this unfortunate couple facing opposition at every turn. This time it's a cartoonish power-abusing villain (Eiji's maternal grandfather, not Aoi's) complete with the signature clasped hands.

How are these two fans of an author who never sold a single book? How are they big fans of that closet book... when he supposedly never made a single sale?

I guess even the rich pirate, but you shouldn't pirate from authors./jk
