Let me get this right:
The amazons were being cornered by cannibals. This had gone far enough that any amazon over 30 already sacrificed themselves to let the young live.
Their rules state that a man that sees their face must be killed unless the girl who faces was seen loves the man.
Even without the threat of the cannibals I think with such a rule they're just waiting to go extinct.

Genetics only break down after generations of incestious behavior. And that assumes earth based genetics rather then a race of humanoids that are known for mating with the males of other races and only birthing females.

On a side note, the genetic pool's stability should be considered on a story to story basis. Not only could divine and magical abilities make such genetic issues irrelevant, but it could just as easily be that their world didn't need to suffer thrue whole cultures where "pure bloodlines" were seen as a status symbol.
