What is wrong with this fic? Why is she asking the 8 year old if she was writing love letters?

I am getting way too many questionable vibes form this one. Dropped.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with a child writing a "love letter".
And it's obvious that she asked her because she see her as a rival, remember they live in what is basically the middle ages... so go read some history and stop putting your own standards of life into a piece of fiction. And even if it was a love letter for Shirou, it's kinda been established that he sees her as a little sister.
Why do people's mind goes "ohh he gunna sexualize a child" immediately after seeing a child. It makes my blood boil holy f*ck.

What? You... You do realize that children can fall in love too, right? Love letters are most popular among children, adults tend to simply talk it out. I feel like that question had more of a vibe of an auntie asking her niece about her "romance life", than anything you imagined.

That might be true but... mate, I still remember Usagi Drop. I can tell this vibe from a mile away. I am NOT trusting a manga that has a granma like this, arguibly the main female character being a kid that is literally asked about love letters and such stuff being implied. It might never go that route, maybe I'm getting the wrong impression, but I've learned my lesson.

I'm not taking the risk.

Heck even the last plot points with the fairy were kind of about a age gap, with the fairy being too long lived for the guy, no romance was technically involved true, but... eh.

You're paranoid. It's actually not that uncommon for older women to tease younger girls like that, it's obvious that she just wanted to write to her missing (presumed dead) father. And MC clearly has a type, and it's not children, though he is clearly fond of her as a like a surrogate older brother. She's had a rough childhood full of perseverence and hardship. Just that you're even suggesting this will go down the Usagi Drop route is sickening. Get your head out of the gutter.

Wait, what? The Japanese have a superstition about black cats, too? That originated with witches, though.
The superstition about black cats goes deeper then just witches.
And there have actually been a few places where black cats were considers good luck too.

Huh, you never got teased by adults when you were in elementary school about your crush? And I'm talking about kid crushing on another kid. Back when I was that young, I knew some kids who wrote love "letters" to their crush (though it's probably too short to be called a letter).

The fact that you immediately think it's a romantic from kid to adult is sickening actually.

Also the fairy arc is clearly about the difficulty of friendship between long lived fairy and short lived human. You're messed up for thinking it's romance.

Do you think romance is the only relationship possible between 2 people?
