While that is a nice sentiment, it is also naïve. Sure he could and is likely to live for decades, she fucked him up mentally during some of his most important years of life. He can't simply get over that (especially since it consumed most of his life already). There is a reason why child abuse is taken so seriously and viewed as heavily damaging.
A quick aside but she isn't really caring, rather most of her actions stem from both the guilt of her past actions and the "kindness" he showed her. I am sure she won't be as cruel as she was as a kid but she isn't as altruistic as you think.
I disagree to a point.
I know a lot of people who had harsh childhood (from parents abuse, being beaten in school daily to surviving a war) and yet they grow up to be happy and productive people in their 30's, many starting their own families. It all depends on what kind of support you have and how much are you willing to let it all go after a certain point. Sure, many of them still hold some sort of trauma when they were kids but people change over time and those kind of trauma have less and less effect as the time goes on. Only exception I have seen to this so far are highly depressed persons, who will only always only see bad in not just their childhood but everything that exists. But those are extreme cases and not that much common.
Saying that your life is ruined when you are 15, still go to school, didn't had your first job and didn't pay your first tax yet is much more naive view imho.
And I would not dismiss her as totally altruistic person, she cares about MC so much and bears so much guilt that she got herself into being bullied again so that MC would be left alone. That action alone shows (as MC have stated) that she is redeemable. She may have done bad things when she was a kid but at least she is trying to fix all of that, which is something that I cannot say for most other fictional characters in her position.
In the end, entire theme of this revenge and forgiveness. And this last few chapters illustrated that perfectly. Yes, revenge feels sweet and enjoyable when delivered (those who have watched this week 9999 Gacha anime knows what I am talking about) but it is also the easiest thing to do. And most of them either leaves you completely empty (like MC stated in this chapter) or it fuels even more revenge in a cycle that is hard to break. Forgiveness is much, much harder to do. Especially in cases of deep emotional and psychical damage. But in the end, those who can forgive even that not only bring rest to their own souls but also break the cycle of hate before it can even began.
And MC is on a good path to create better future for himself and his bully. If this manga goes in that direction it will be a good read.
