An analogy would be like weapon producers that prefer the war never ends.

Moral questions aside, from the other side they wanted to protect their prosperity. So if he doesn’t do this, the guild head is not doing his job properly. The clash of interest is inevitable.

Thanks for the new chapter!

Merchant Guild: prolonging longstanding threats just so they can maintain an economic status quo. I've seen even entire nations doing this shit; they sometimes even raise future terrorist personas/groups which are now almost impossible to eradicate.

I don't know about cheaper, but the alchemist lady mentioned it's exactly the same as the original, no? Just that no one was able to transport it out until now.
Also the effects suddenly gaining healing is weird, since when they're at the bath town, it's just a potion version of sports drink. Did I missed something or did author just grab it from his arse for this new 'plot'?
you did indeed forget.
the reason the hot springs was popular was that the sparkling was made the potions more effective + regenerated stamina or smt.
guild lady said it was the same as a regular sparkling potion yes, but sparkling potions are more effective than regular potions, their downside being that they cannot be transported efficiently (any shake will cause em to either explode or fizzle out), even less so by adventurers, hence why this is a new technology.

EDIT: went double check - ch.5 pg. 18, they're stated as faster than regular potions while also relieving fatigue

I'm not sure where you are confused but I'll break it down for you:
1. There's a normal potion available everywhere. But only in the hotspring town a higher quality called sparkling potion is found. And it was never said potions didn't have healing abilities. You just assumed that I guess.
2. But it can't be transported. Hotspring town got no dungeons. So there that high-efficiency potion is just a delicacy. But can't be put into practical use in adventuring.
3. Filaratia town has a Dungeon-based economy with a high hurdle dungeon. No one ever managed to clear that. But with this new sparkling potion that has the same efficacy as the one in hotspring town, there's opened a possibility of it being cleared and sealed.
4. Dungeon sealed> No monster or low lvl monsters only> the economy revolving around dungeon collapses> murchent guild goes bankrupt
5. So Grand Marchent panics and tries to sabotage their business.

I do agree that the rapid development of their businesses could've been done better. If they at least didn't make the portable versions, there would've been enough time to profit before the whole thing was shut down.

But making sparkling potion portable is literally their initial business? Because the OG version was hard to transport.

The sparkling wine is an expansion that came later and ironically isn't what made the grand merchant acted.

Happy that his first reaction was to destroy the dungeon out of spite, since when I heard they got embargoed that was my first reaction. "destroy it, drop hints that it was a direct result of being prevented from profiting on it themselves - other than by profiting directly through the reward for its destruction - and then try [the merchanting stuff] with another dungeon once word has traveled a bit so noone stops you again. Let the merchants guild regret taking hasty actions without any negotiation."
This doesnt feel like that kind of story but I wonder if, after they clear the dungeon will there be resentment from the populace that relied on it for a stable living
resentment, sure. But retaliation? nah. No reason to send assassins/thugs once the act has already been done, that only makes sense to do in preventative. After the dungeon is gone, it would simply be an unnecessary expense in an already very economically precarious moment (though once things stabilized it is possible someone might deem it worth the monetary waste again to soothe their egos, but at that point tempers will have cooled, and they are no longer on everyone's mind). And risky at that, as it means potentially incurring the wrath of someone with the martial might to take down the dungeon alone - who already showed what their annoyance leads to by going MAD when their own dungeon exploitation was embargoed (by destroying the dungeon everyone - including them - wanted to exploit).
Merchants Guild misunderstood the sealing of dungeons. They think that if the dungeon is sealed, it will disappear completely, but it doesn't. Dungeons that have been sealed do not mean it disappeared and cannot be entered, but the number of strong monsters will not increase significantly. So, weak monsters still exist, and some of them can be used as a business, such use their fur for clothing materials. Areas that are "clean" can be used for plantations or livestock. Business from adventuring will decrease (not disappear), but the business as a whole will not destroyed, because another kind of business will arise from it.

The Merchants Guild just panicked, and instead of consulting the Adventurer Guild, they took the "dirty" route to solve the problem.
I really doubt this is the case.
  • Makes no sense that an entire guild (+ the ppl that talked to mc. + the mc. + the know-it-all mcguffin twins) in charge of a city with a dungeon, won't know what its clearing entails. Unless the weak monsters are already worthless enough that from a profit-standpoint it is a moot point whether it was destroyed or left existing but with weak monsters.
  • Clearing it as revenge makes little sense if it has no impact. That makes it no more than a publicity stunt, which if it was worthwhile doing, they likely would have done to market their potions to begin with.
  • I have seen no indications at all that what you describe would be the case. So if that ends up being the case (which, again, I doubt), then it is definitely out-of-the-left-field.

Ahem... so what's their side business have anything to do with clearing the dungeon that needs to be stopped by merchant man?
The city and Merchant Guild gain a lot of profit from materials and Lost Objects found inside the dungeon. As long as the dungeon is still running, they're going to milk it. And any resource from the dungeon is close to unlimited since the monster inside the dungeon will keep respawning.

Now then, if the dungeon is cleared it will be sealed. A sealed dungeon cannot be accessed anymore and the Merchant Guild source of profit will be gone for good.

The sparkling potion that produced by the twin change everything. It's able to heal your wounds and recover your stamina. Thanks to that, the adventurers able to do long expedition and didn't have to go back to the surface to recover. This chain of event will quicken the pace of adventurer to clear the dungeon. The Merchant Guild didn't like this idea since they've been halt the progress of clearing the dungeon to gain the most profit from it.

IIRC, it's able recover stamina. But somehow, the one created by the twin also able to heal wounds. But then, the one go to the bathouse is practially healthy and there's no apparent wound on their body. So, we probably didn't see its full effect until it was used by someone who was lightly or heavily wounded.

So far looks neat, thank you for the TL.
What this from? Looks neat.

They're probably afraid the adventurers are gonna be too effective at clearing dungeons, so much so that the dungeon got sealed.

I guess kinda like how machines make stuffs like fishing and lumbering way too effective, that making sure the things they gather don't become extinct is a big thing.

I said portable, not potable. This isn't about the wine, which is actually the least offensive product, it's the powder packets fitted inside the bottles.

As usual, go straight down to underhanded methods instead of just talking it out and coming to an agreement.

I think deep down, he want to maintain status quo of the adventurers maintaining the dungeon outbreak. With the addition of potion supplier, the progress would be faster, even if it's not immediate. I mean, ultimately he wants to nip the bud before it blooms
