Just a WAG. But she is jealous of the childhood friend because she was enslaved and didn't have someone that would protect her.

OTOH it might not be jealousy and she is annoyed because MC had a childhood friend who obviously adored him and was oblivious to her affections.

Who knows, Japanese authors can be a little odd while writing about emotions and relationships, hence the heavy reliance on the master/slave clichés.
