I really can't keep reading this. The dude is 40yo and the author makes him act like a kid, it's just too silly.
I think it makes sense. He is in the form of a kid now, however, his character being timid yet capable is in line, in my opinion, with that of his former adult self. He was already seen to be a shy person. And his personality makes sense when looking at how he was raised (if I remember correctly, his father forced him to learn martial arts and seemed abusive) and how he was seriously overworked.
I personally like his character. I find it relatable as I lack confidence in myself, which effects the way I talk at work and how people such as my supervisor look at me. I’m not saying the story’s without its flaws, however, in my opinion the main character seems to be written in line with his past self, unlike some other isekai series I’ve read where the main character basically becomes a different person entirely.
I can see where you are coming from though. I mean, we didn’t really have a lot of time to see what the main character was like before he died.
Edit: Also, staying in a forest, away from society, has probably changed him in certain ways. And meeting actual dieties would have definitely changed his personality to some extent.
