The whole novel is sweet. There's some bitter moments, but overall, Ryouma is able to enjoy his life.

I thought this back with the book too, but does he have no foresight? Feeding the slimes overly makes them split, but he needs large enough amounts of food to feed them that he deems it worthwhile buying monster corpses from the subjugation. So splitting them makes the food requirements double, but he can't have sudden windfalls of food like this very often.

When they get to a large enough number he can combine them into the big/huge/king slimes and that greatly reduces how much he needs to feed them.

He didn't desperately need a ton of food for his slimes or anything, he just wanted it so that he'd have more slimes
