The reason other people need to tell Chizuru (rather REITERATE) to her is because Kazuya has been doing it all series long. Chizuru wasn't ready to hear it because she was too preoccupied with her grandmother's passing. Before that she was preoccupied with her Grandfather's. And before that she was ignoring the reality of her parents passing. Chizuru is walking through life fighting the urge to repress feelings as she learned how to do as a young child... That's why she's an incredible actress, she's been faking since childhood. Now, she's finally trying to overcome her past, reconciling with all the things Kazuya has said to her while she wasn't ready to hear it. And it's all flooding back to her in the present as their other mutual friends show to her that they see the exact effort Kazuya has been putting in for her.

Truthfully, take a clear look at your own life before you try to analyze the lives of characters that come from the mind of others who've clearly been through things. Maybe the level of introspection this manga offers isn't for you at this stage of your life

The author of this comic is so preoccupied with the way other people think. There's a constant anxiety over what other people think of the main characters (e.g. how every time they go out together there are insert panels where faceless randos leer at the girl and say the protagonist looks like a loser beta male).

Best response I've seen explaining Kazuya's anxiety. I just wished the author protrayed it in a way that didn't feel repetitive or space consuming.

You're doing too much work for this comic.

The stuff you said about chizuru is all nominally true or at least gestured at, but the biggest reason I find this comic frustrating is because it seems to want me to be invested in the way she feels while also being very unwilling to demonstrate the way she feels. It's so determined to make sure she seems like an unattainable prize that the protagonist is unworthy of that it doesn't really allow her any inferiority. We're like 300 chapters in and she's only recently started giving any indication that her feelings towards him are starting to thaw at all.

When I complain about how anxious the comic feels, it's not because I find it unbelievable, it's because I think it's bad storytelling. For the pages and pages and pages it spends on kazuyas internal monolgue about how he's a sad little failboy and how chizuru hates his stupid guts, it doesn't even seem conscious of the fact that that's a negative trait he has. It's just, like, his charm point. His anxiety isn't something he's aware of and is working to overcome, it's just something that's there because this girl is like a precious stone that he would like to have sex with and he's a fucked up little man who doesn't deserve to look at her, and that's something that we need 5-8 pages of every chapter instead of anything at all happening.

It's fine to make a comic where the protagonist is anxious or is dating someone out of their league and thinks it's too good to be true, but ideally you would write about those things with a goal in mind, not just because you think it's an entertaining thing to make me read for 6 years.

I'm not saying you're trying too hard. It's good to care about things you like. I'm saying the rental girlfriend comic doesn't deserve such a passionate defense. Idk why you have to be mad at me about it.
