I'm fully talking from Kazuya's postion because Chizuru has always been a lost cause anyway.
I do understand your point, I just feel like it's just... Wrong to stop all interaction with a so-called "friend" after they lost someone important. Any normal friend would have just sent her a message with "How you doin", inviting her to go shopping or eating together. Like, normal friend stuff (that you'd do even in normal circumstances) without being too pushy, but without completely avoiding contact either.

What's really bothering me at this point is that not once Kazuya has done something for Chizuru just because they just know each other. He always looked at her as a potential sex partner (sorry for being so crude, but it's true) or a rental girlfriend. He's never just said "hey how you doin'" or ate with her without some thing else in mind. Even right now, when Chizuru needs help the most, he sees her as a nothing else than a potential girlfriend or a rental girlfriend, and he acts accordingly.

@Liu thats actually something that has caught my eye too. But its not something only kazuya does, seems to be the norm in the series, since ruka and chizuru do it it.
This whole "your are either a client, or a complete stranger" is somethng i really dont get, i mean, at this point in time, anybody you ask would tell you they are friends, after all they have done for each other (specially kazuya) that theres no way they are mere aquantances. At the bare minimun they are neighbours, and classmates in college, so why is it that they are not allowed to greet each other in the hallway, or call each other, or hang out unless its through the date site?
Even when kazuya wanted to ask sumi for advice, he had to rent her, and when sumi told him she wanted to hang out past the timeframe of their date, its like kazuya couldnt even register the posibility of hanging out as friends, thats just ridiculous.
Just freaking call her, tell her you need advice like any normal friend would do for fucks sake!

It's not like he stops it. It's more about privacy issues. Chizuru never was happy when Kazuya used intercom, balcony was blocked by Mini. Line... He bothered about agency bs. And for rental stuff - it's questionable right now. Chizuru before movie was thinking about quitting, then was moviemaking, then funeral. And now it's somehow an option. About relationship status - it's japanese shit to announce and confirm it. Right now he is not her friend, just a neighbor (Ichinose)/client (Mizuhara/Ruka/Mami)/ (fake)boyfriend (Sayuri/Kinoshita). So as a neighbor he can't do much (not like they at stage of eating and doing neighbor stuff).

Kazuya btw sometimes look at every girl as a sex-object. But he's doing things for other reasons. He agreed to lie to Sayuri because of problems, that he caused to Chizuru. Movie was also done to pay his debt. Actually, he understood that she's in different world and thought that he was burden to her (and then she said that she was never regretting meeting him). After that they both failed to express their feelings (lack of sleep), then - dying Sayuri etc. Actually Kazuya represents stereotypical japanese guy, who hates himself (for whatever reasons), trying to be good for everyone, trying to maintain status-quo plus trying to not hurt others. Of course it leads to hurting others most and hurting himself less. He wants to help Chizuru, but can't do it, because he's not a friend, not a boyfriend. To maintain status-quo he can act as a neghbor (out of options) or as a client (suddenly an option).
Yes, that's bullshit in western world. But rental relatives is also bullshit.

@Rhin If you go back to the Chapter 56 ( yes ... 101 back ) they already go out just as friends. This is the reason because this story feels stuck.

I think it would be good return to that point. A perfect date... He spend too much... she demands to not spend more in her, and promise Kazuya to go out just as friends... no money involved.

And the night comes... an erotic dream about a confession and kisses and...BOOM... the dream is Chizuru's.
She totally fall in love with Kazuya after the perfect date (and a lot from the past) and now they are in the friend zone...

Will we ever reach the point when Kazuya will man up and properly settles things with Ruka? At this point i have no idea what's up with their "trial" relationship. It's always the same scenario eversince their whole trial thing began, Ruka announces herself as his actual girlfriend and this spineless bastard either says nothing or just becomes too horny to properly function (tho the horny part is mostly true whenever he comes into contact with any other female)

Just binged this the past couple of days. I frequent /a/ and they kept telling me MC was a simp. He might be but he worked really hard and he's making huge dents and correct arguments against chizuru's armor. This is a good story but there were some moments like 50 or so chapters ago where it obviously looked like the mangaka needed time and had a filler chapter. I enjoyed reading this. I don't think it's one of the best but it's definitely entertaining. I hope the mangaka wraps this story up in 1-2 volumes.

As a side note, it reminded me of the fun time I had reading The World God Only Knows. If you like this series, it's definitely worth checking out. It does get more bloated than Kanokari but I would be lying if I said it wasn't as entertaining as this series.
