from what i heard. the anime was portraying to much realistic swords play. the manga its more fantasy. and it is a fantasy manga with magic and monsters.

imagine a Olympic fencer fighting a dragon. he`ll get eaten alive.
but in fantasy, you have people stopping swords with abs.
Not the swordplay, the adaptation just didn't get the right pace imo, sometime too fast sometime slow and the 3d part make it awkward somehow.

It isn't at all. Not with any type of real blade.
It is a good stance to die while looking "Cool"...

At best you go through that position while repositioning ( after you've fucked up already by letting someone get behind you....double so in a 1v1....).
Funny thing... I could swear I wrote specifying that it was "fictionally useful", not with these exact words, but I do remember thinking it when I was making that comment... but I clearly didn't write that part.

Well... yeah, you are right, it only works in fiction, but it does look cool.

I know nothing about sword fight, but I recognize Anakin uses a similar guard stance

he's using more of a guard like this "roof guard".
though at the end he holds it almost vertical against his back as if he's gonna pull off some ukenagashi stuff or some strange backwards ox guard
Idk what effect that would really achieve since your arm movement is going to be more limited in the backwards direction.

It's fantasy in the sense that people are superhuman. The swordplay however is still very realistic or at the very least, plausible if you could leap up 2 stories and lift a wagon of grain. There's physics and the weight of their movements are very apparent, which is what a lot of action manga tend to forget/ignore. Modern shonen example: Sakamoto Days.

So far, we haven't seen any non-magic air slashes or whatever. And it better stay that way.

I gotta say, there's very few times where we see him as a "Sword Saint". Like, he's really strong and very good with the sword, but a "Sword Saint" would be heads and shoulders above everyone.
This is one of those times where he does come across as a Sword Saint, though, because she's moving at an absolutely bonkers speed and he's managing to react anyway.
