It's sad because Ochi is genuinely concerned about Hiroshi's well-being. He confronted him on multiple occassions about his shoulder and told him to get rest, yet Hiroshi ignored this advice and downplayed his injury because he wanted to keep on playing baseball.

So this time, Ochi tries a different approach and uses Hiroshi's potential and future playing baseball to try to appeal to him, which probably would've worked back then. But now Hiroshi is starting to feel used and doesn't want to hear any arguments involving baseball and he snaps. He thinks Ochi is just like the coach and others who only care about him for baseball and projects their selfishness onto him, even though Ochi wanted him to stop playing while he was injured and was angry at the coach for making him play anyways).

It's a heartbreaking situation when someone says the right thing at the wrong time. If Ochi had used arguments like he did before that highlighted how Hiroshi shouldn't put stress on his shoulder, he most likely would've listened and the friendship could've been saved. It's just as sad a trope when someone realizes something too late like Hiroshi did a few chapters ago when he realized Ochi was right all along.

i think that ochi does genuinely care about hiroshi to a degree, but at least part of him does see hiroshis skill as a means to an end. hes not as bad as the coach but i do wonder how close he'll stay to hiroshi if/when he does quit baseball considering its like 80% of their relationship

Bro is a tiny bit codependent and that bit is seeping into how he's been treating their friendship. Now he can't even give proper advice cause the pool is muddied by his own intentions.

Where Ochi went to far is that he's sabotaging Hiroshi's personal life. Whether or not his intentions' were purely to see him get better or so that he can go back to baseball asap, he's trying to take away what made Hiroshi happy. Which leads Hiroshi to have the assumption that Ochi's doing for the latter reason.

Friend/relationship drama aside, you'd think the doctors would also report it to a teacher/parent (tho i guess confidentiality) to tell him to take it easy as well (if not him being some bs genius prodigy that can pitch with his other arm but i imagine you still need to swing instead of staying as a pitcher but i don't rly know enough about sports)

(tho while ochi has daddy issues and plays for that reason, idk if he'd still like baseball/would've stuck with it if Hiro didn't stay on the same team, it does feel like they'd both be better off in a 'solo' sport like track & field or so)

Aww doggos (tho even as a retired/stay at home granny, 3 is a bit much if they aren't pampered lap dogs that prefer being inside/ok with the backyard instead of a proper walk, tho at that point hire a dogwalker, unless the grandma living with them implies that they're a bit poor/not too well off and the reason the dad is pushing Ochi so hard into baseball is so that he can earn a paycheck for them)

Can't imagine where the next arc is going unless they fully commit to Hiroshi dropping out if not somehow sheltering Kanae since she's not welcome in her own home, i'm surprised she hasn't been fully kicked out unless the mom would get charged for that

To a large degree. He knows Hiroshi genuinely likes and cares about baseball and that baseball is very important to him. That's why he's worried about him not taking his recovery seriously and hanging out with a girl who wants him to quit baseball.

Ochi is NOT gay because it's a FACT that Ochi had no problem or jealousy at all about Hiroshi banging other girls.
He just earnestly wants to play baseball with him and go as far as they can together.
People misunderstand him they have never entirely dedicated themselves to something or felt earnest passion for a dream before, people just like Kanae.

Fellas, is a boy straight if he blushes and shows his true smile to his male friend? The same male friend he wanted to play baseball with and give up his youth to play baseball with?

Maybe Ochi isn't gay but to deny his feelings were so strong for Hiroshi that he dreamt of a future of them together. Not with his ex girlfriend. ONLY with him and Hiroshi.

Don't forget, Hiroshi treated his ex like crap. He didn't care for her. All his time and feelings went into baseball.

Ochibro himself said he and Kanae were similar. He is codependent, not to her degree as far as we know. He has also been severely abused by his parent, and like Kanae he has no dreams of his own; he needs Hiroshi to pursue this dream so he can hitch a ride on it.

Kanae only said he should quit baseball because she was led to believe it caused his injury. She wants the best for him and doesn't expect him to harm himself to become famous and successful. And again, she was improving. Hiroshi and Tomiko's influence had her feeling safe enough to start exploring her identity.

Ochi being so aggressive now has her reverting to her old paranoia and coping methods. If he asked Kanae to help convince Hiroshi to do physical therapy, I bet she would have been down. But the way he's pressuring her and Hiroshi is not helping.

Yeah there's no way I could be convinced ochi doesn't at least have a confused boy-crush or something! Idk how anyone can seriously deny the tension!
