@kuf Your opinions on her being annoying and ugly are purely subjective. She's a good character when honest and she is pretty.

I feel like we're talking past each other here. Note that the focus for my complaints is only on this chapter, if it applies to any other chapter, I didn't think that far, but I'm willing to discuss it.

My complaint is that the conflict between Manbagi and Komi isn't getting the focus it deserves (it only got 3 pages). And in those 3 pages the execution was terrible. How Komi and Manbagi's relationship has developed over their "rivalry" for Tadano is too big of a topic to ponder over in a few hours and I'm hesitant to comment on it when it's being developed in the next few chapters.

After re-reading the stairs scene, I think I understand another source of my frustration. The stairs scene was about how Manbagi was willing to sacrifice her own happiness in order to maintain the status quo as well as not get in the way of her friend Komi. I could see the same paralel here only this time it seems Komi is the one sacrificing her own happiness. The problem is that the manga doesn't spend any time exploring that. Relegating it only to subtleties which I find annoying when the chapter spent most of the time fucking around.

Page 17 where she just told manbagi she doesn't like it is good enough for me, this manga is still going to continue anyway so later on we can see how komi reacts when manbagi is accepted/rejected by tadano.
I agree with you on the first paragraph except on the above. I'm not satisfied with just this. she's going to hurt herself, this chapter felt to me like she was handicapping herself. She deserves to pursue Tadano as much as Manbagi. What I wanted from Komi is to contemplate what she thinks about Tadano choosing Manbagi over her and affirm or remain conflicted if she's okay with that. I understand this is the beginning of the arc and could be explored further next chapter. But when the start of an important arc is mostly spent messing around then focuses on the topic for 3 pages before messing around again, I get very annoyed especially when the previous chapters were also spent messing around.

my point still stands that manbagi still attracted to the people that is nice to her doesn't mean they are interested in her. ... She till hasn't learned her mistake and I do believe this will be basis for manbagi's own development in the future if oda made manbagi lost this time.
I don't get this point in all honesty. What's wrong with Manbagi pursuing someone she fancies? Isn't the point of confessing is to affirm the opposite party likes you back and begin a relationship? Does Manbagi have to confirm Tadano likes her back first before confessing or fancy him? Is it wrong to like someone without knowing if they like you back? I don't understand why it's a mistake.

*3rd Paragraph*
I disagree with you logic here. Manbagi and Komi are rivals, they may support each other in trying to court Tadano, but at the end of the day they are equals with one side will win while the other will lose. Manbagi telling Komi she's going to confess is enough courtesy towards Komi as an equal. She's telling Komi that she's going to make a decisive move and that they both should prepare for the outcome. Manbagi asking for Komi's permission is not what equals do. It's what a person of lower standing does towards her superior. Her asking for permission is not acknowledgement that she is an equal to Komi but instead reverts back to her old self where she can't win by her own merits (at least when it's against Komi).

I understand this concern, but this is not a generic romcom where characters came out of nowhere. I already addressed this on the 1st response to consider the established background and possible nature both komi and manbagi to react this way. Komi in this case is a special case where she has to face the conflict of possibly damaging the dynamic that she already got used to, it would be cool if you want to consider it.
I don't think you understand. Komi is not certain over her own emotions over Manbagi confessing to the guy she likes. Komi doesn't feel Manbagi needs to tell how she feels (possibly guilt) over her decision to confess. Komi is blatantly ignoring her own feelings here. This chapter doesn't take it's time to let Komi consider how she feels about it when it clearly could free up space to do so. I understand there is next chapter, but this is about this chapter not the next chapter.

This is where actually komi learned her circle of friends, we got to see her acquaintances, her close friends and bffs. The way I see it Isagi and ase are in the same circle with sasaki and katou from the 1st year, they are komi's close friends but certainly not as close as komi to manbagi or komi to tadano due to their amount of interaction, it's on a different level.
I don't think Komi compartmentalize her friends like that. She views her friends as her friends, some may be closer to her than others but they are all her friends.

From your 1st reply: Isagi and ase .... will be consequential for post-confession arc to which each one of them will have a role in forming a new dynamic between komi and manbagi
From your 2nd reply: By dynamic changes I don't mean that manbagi and komi will be automatically enemies after this, but instead a new status quo where one of them is already established to have tadano as their partner.
I'm sorry but I don't get what you mean by dynamic changes. Is it referring to the relationship between Manbagi and Komi or the relationship between Ase and Isagi with Manbagi and Komi? Keep in mind my original point is that there won't be any difference if Ase and Isagi didn't know about the rivalry between Komi and Manbagi until Manbagi confesses to Tadano because they are already friends and will do everything they can to cheer up the losing side. Thus their appearance in this chapter is pointless and a waste of time. Also what do you mean by consequential?

maybe I should stick with tadanobowl instead.
Huh, I thought Tadanobowl is your way of refering to Tadano? Can we just call it "rivalry"?

this is a SoL 4-koma manga, there will be limitation on how much you can put in a single chapter
I would agree if the chapter didn't waste over half of the pages messing around and making funny face (I understand comedy is subjective, but when a chapter starts off with a serious note, then goof off, then does the minimum of plot advancement before goofing off again, I couldn't help but feel annoyed), besides the stairs scenes succeeded in making comedy while also focusing on advancing the plot.

In my defense, the server was acting wonky so I thought my coment wasnt posted.

I'm not complaining about Manbagi telling Komi about confessing.

I'm complaining about Manbagi asking permision to confess from Komi.

My reasoning taken from my reply to Nihilist1

@nutman451 Hi, I'm just going to interject here real quick. Manbagi asking Komi for permission is exactly what I always thought she would do and is totally in-character to me. See we saw back in the festival arc that Komi and Manbagi both like Tadano, but that they value their friendship with each other even more. That's why Manbagi wanted to give up on Tadano and why Komi was so adamant that she not. At that point they agreed to both try to win his heart and stay friends no matter the outcome. Manbagi, however, still finds the idea of Tadano choosing her to be nigh impossible and doesn't have much confidence. That insecurity is a major factor of why Manbagi, someone who's known to be very forward, has been acting so passively. Now she's finally reached the point where she's decided to do something, but she wants Komi's permission because she doesn't want to get a leg up on her BFF without her approval because she values Komi's friendship more than the, to her, minuscule chance that Tadano might actually choose her over Komi. She's afraid that if she does do something without gaining Komi's approval first that it could strain their friendship.

TLDR: Manbagi is insecure and values her friendship with Komi more than the possibility of dating Tadano (Which is exactly why I want them to date in the first place.)

Oh don't worry about it, I may look cranky most of the time but I welcome any discussion.

I both agree and disagree. My argument seen here:

To reiterate, in the 2nd festival arc (particularly the stairs scene) Komi wants Manbagi to view eachother as equals. Komi even said "I think what kind of relationship you two have, should be decided between you two. It shouldn't be decided by just one of you. Or by someone else. If you're giving up on your feelings because you're trying to be considerate of me. I will not allow that." - Komi Shouko Chapter 228 page 9. However by asking for permission it is akin to admitting that Komi is her superior. It means that Komi gets to dictate/influence manbagi's relationship with Tadano which is he exact opposite of what Komi wanted.

However, Manbagi telling Komi that she's going to confess to Tadano is perfectly acceptable. like I said in my argument, Manbagi telling Komi she's going to confess is enough courtesy towards Komi as an equal. She's telling Komi that she's going to make a decisive move and that they both should prepare for the outcome.

And I do believe the later is still in line with her character as well as reinforcing some character development.

Holy fucking shit! What is with you guys and these essay filled comment sections!?

I'm happy for Manbagi, I know she ain't winning the Tadano-bowl but I'm glad that she and Komi are good enough friends to respect each others feelings like that. It's really sweet!

I feel like Tadano is going to accept not because he likes Manbagi but because he has no reason to reject her it would be one thing of he also knew how Komi san felt but if he thinks that Komi san just sees him as a friend what reason does he have for rejecting the real open hearted feelings of Manbagi if presented before him
