I was agreeing with you until your conclusion
that reminds me -
It's funny that Otobe's first and second interactions with Keisuke were him making an absolute ass of himself, calling her a primary schooler, then a middle schooler, and then assuming she was a crossdressing boy and expressing outright shock every time she yelled her correction at him. Literally her parting words upon their first interaction were "you suck, dude."

But even though "he's dense and tactless at times", she likes him now because he's straightforward and has helped her once or twice - y'know, the usual formula we see so often that inexplicably makes the girl fall in love with the dense and awkward male protagonist.

And yet - Keisuke's trajectory of developing feelings for Kusunoki isn't all that different. She was continuously only wanting to hang out with him, wanted no other male friends but him, was very blunt in her interactions and wording about things that he repeatedly "took it the wrong way" and grew so conscious of her (as it's often phrased in school-age manga) that he developed feelings for her out of his perception of how she was acting toward him all on his own. She wasn't flirting, she wasn't trying having feelings for him, she's just obtuse and doesn't get "how she should act toward a boy" and Keisuke let himself run away from himself.

So he and Otobe have effectively done the same thing, and Kusunoki is as dense and oblivious as Keisuke is, and this is why I think Hebikawa should win because she's savvy enough and confident enough to just go out and grab her man without the usual preamble of freaking out over every little thing.

does this mean kusunoki will realize she likes keisuke? or will this end up as an awkward love triangle where kusunoki supports otobe who likes keisuke who likes kusunoki? either way as long as hebikawa isn't involved i’m happy

oh yeah, I considered going back and making that a separate bit because it's very much a personal editorial tacked onto the end of what was supposed to be a simple, straightforward analysis comment.

Or, at least made it more clear that it was meant as a " /j > /uj/ > /j" sort of thing.

Might do that now anyway.

At this point, I can't tell if the snake shippers are being ironic or are genuine or it's an elaborate performance piece. It's always entertaining at least!
It is probably just a desperate need of "something" happening instead of having yet another 200 chapter slop that doesn't go anywhere. Snek has the most potential to dynamite the status quo. Be it romantic or otherwise. Because, as this chapter showcased, this can't get any more generic.

Such a rare thing to happen in romcoms that it is still used as the sole example of a great achievement by the genre. Such a simple thing (a runner up to grab the win, pretty naturally as well) but almost nonexistent. There is also Kokoro Connect which will never have a second season because of the retarded voice cast and the director.

I would say Ichigo 100% also did it, as the main heroine the author was always trying to make Aya, but it wasn't the same in the end as the MC dated Tsukasa most of the series in the end (and that manga was more harem in the end)

still Botan supremacy is probably gonna stay that way for a while hahaha, as I would say achieving such a "simple" thing is actually hard af for authors that most of the time prefer the status quo.

Again writer's always seem to know how to make development and writing make sense for every other character but FMC.

Really like how Otobe questioned her own attraction to MC and actually figured out her own reasons by the end of it based on an event they shared. It's a genuine question and not just something as basic as "he's nice".

And if your only reason for liking someone is that someone else liked them it's just lazy writing, inconsistent too considering they don't seem to like anyone even when asked multiple different times before.

Kusonoki needs a rival for her since only then will she come to terms with her feelings, otobe or the snake could very well be that rival for her, I prefer it to be charged because she will do everything to steal it from Kusonoki and only one will be left I prefer it to be collect because she will do everything to steal it from Kusonoki

Yes, this. The FMC is so boring, cliche, vanilla. Romcom readers have seen her type a hundred times.

Which is why most people will cling to Otobe or Hebikawa. Because they're so much more interesting. They're literally the only thing that somewhat keeps the plot afloat....

And I will say, they geniunely feel like somewhat similar to a "person". Kusunoki for now is some kind of boring automaton...
