Also sorry, we can only blame him for not being honest with his feelings. Even if she ended rejecting him, it still would be better for both of them than doing what he is doing.
What he expected, that she said "after all, I love you!"? They are friends, this what they have now if he wants to try a change he need to be open about it

Isn’t the whole premise of this manga about two kids in middle school being lonely and wanting friends when they debut in high school. Making friends is already a big step emotionally so to expect some kind of monogamous romantic leap almost immediately seems like it would be a train wreck form of storytelling and building up characters.

If i were in his position i don't even want to continue this high school persona. it's just so sad to feel that twice, and just right after you think it's going to be better...

She probably didn’t mean to friendzone him with that and just wanted to make him feel better and let him know he is important to her. Sure she may not know exactly how she feels about him currently, but she definitely thinks he is important to her so that’s a good thing.

Of course his perception is that he is friendzoned, but like, I don’t see why he would think she would say anything other than that right now? Finding out that she thinks you are an important friend is a good thing….meaning she isn’t just going to tell you to go away.

Anyways, I imagine either the tomboy or Hebikawa will start to make legit moves and Kusunoki will start to think about how she feels, get jealous, and then go on some sort of offensive.

I can get it from both sides. For her, she doesn't know how to confess or if her feelings are more than that of just friends. So saying reassuring words that they are close friends seems right in her mind.

But in Keisuke's eyes, it felt like he was somehow too transparent about his feelings for her (relatable) and that she only took him aside to tell him that is not where there relationship is at.

It's all frustrating for everyone, especially when one, there are multiple chess pieces here in terms of relationships and it's not cut and dry, and two, Haruno told her the importance of communication and transparency.

Haruno-kun really became the star of this chapter, by acting like a sensible human being.

I mean, isn't that how it works? The friends on the outside can see everything clear as day, while the dummies on the inside don't.

I mean, that's at least how it is in my life. I notice my friend's relationships and if they are meant for each other or not, and then completely miss the 8 ball when it comes to recognizing people that are interested in me and I might be interested in them.

I agree with this sentiment. It would be a lot better for the story for them to progress their friendship forward into a naturally romantic one. And during that time period, they both help each other out in overcoming their own internal demons.

I mean, at the end of the day we need to remember that in our own relationships. At some point that honeymoon phase ends, so you need to fall back on a solid foundation of friendship.

I understand why he is so indecisive. If he confesses, the friendship might end if she does not feel the same.

But I wish he wouldn't be so dense when it comes to hints from girls. I guess snake eye trauma is holding him back, since most dense MCs would not even realize their own feelings.

I reckon the mangaka didn't mean to give us the best rendition of a friend zone ever. Her disgust at the mere mention of the possibility. About as accurate as it gets. In my extensive experience.

In his defense now, it appears to him that she didn't have feelings for him, and that he was right not to confess.

Friend zoning yourself is not the play he should've made & I faced palmed at it. Still enjoy seeing Kusonoki being happy because her being sad hurts the soul. Thanks for the translations.
They're just accidentally shooting each other down all the time in this arc... And now tanned girl is gonna crush on Shizuki... These misunderstandings will take a while to solve :aquadrink:
