As I said they were pretty much equals in popularity as Web Novels but the diffrence started on their journey as Light Novels starting with the publishers that took them.

Both publishers are under Kadokawa but their Modus Operandis are completely different.

Lazy Villain was picked up by Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko which is arguably Kadokawa's A-tier publisher and is very proactive in marketing and promoting series under them.

As you can see a vast majority of these series are relatively popular and have gotten anime and Lazy Villain is potentially in the frontline for one too.

And yes Weiss gets to be advertised alongside Alya and Megumin

Meanwhile Evil Eye was picked up by Kadokawa Books. Who while not bad are not very proactive.

In regards to art. Lazy Villain was able to secure a very popular artist for the character models for the series(The Iseleve artist) who used her immense followjng to promote Lazy Villain while Evil Eye got a relative newbie who while good didnt really offer much and didnt capture as much attention.

To make matters worse for Evil Eye, when the Light Novel was put up for sale on Amazon and Bookwalker, they put up the wrong synopsis(The synopsis of a Magical Girl series of all things)

But Lazy Villain went further to the next level with its manga adaptation which not only has a unique artstyle but potentially the means to standout from other Villain series and even other isekais with a whopping 61k stars(bookmarks) after 7 chapters even more than most other established series and something that rarely happens.

It's amazing seeing the journey this series(Evil Eye) and Taida na Akujo/Lazy Villain took since this series Web Novels were created at roughly the same time(Lazy Villain at June 2023 and Evil Eye at July 2023).

They also had the a similar amount of "Popularity Points" in the Web Novel site and both relied on gags to the point that you could say both series were brothers from different authors.

So far I'm enjoying both series, but I lke Evil Eye a little more due to the cutesy character design. Do hope it can survive long enough to deliver a couple of arcs.

No. That would still be Death Flags and Piggy Duke.

However, the reason there are so many Villain series manga nowadays in because in 2022-2024 Japanese Web Novel readers were experiencing a "craze" for Villain series around the time Japan was beginning to cool off Villainess series.

It has mostly cooled down now but the series born around that that time are starting to get Light Novel adaptations and Manga.

There were a couple of thousand new series made but most were deleted when their authors realized they were not drawing attention.

So here are "Big Winners" who became popular.

The Deeds of an Extremely Arrogant Villainous Noble.
-The most popular Villain Light Novel and a relatively ok Manga adaptation.
-Didnt become popular in English and the their translators seem to have forgotten about it)

Reincarnated as the Lazy and Villainous Noble
-Pretty good Light Novel but easily has the most popular Manga adaptation.
-Also arguably the most Popular around the world. I've checked Spanish, Thai, Indonesian and Russian manga sites and it has been very well received there as it had been in English sites(Mangadex and Comick.io).

That is What is Needed for a Villainous Noble
-Okayish LN and Manga adaptation
-Not very popular outside Japan.

Kuzuless Oblige
-2nd most popular LN and okayish Manga adaptation.
-Pretty Good reception outside Japan.

Evil Eye
-Awful LN reception but okayish manga.
-Okayish outside Japan.

-Good Light Novel but manga has only just started in Japanese so it only has 2 chapters right now but looks promising.
