Yeah, shame that apparently even the most benign of snide remarks is enough to get your comment moderated if somebody involved has skin so thin it's almost invisible.

Spread nonsense endlessly and that's fine, but dare comment on it by quoting Star Wars? That's a paddlin.

Hah, the phrase "identity politics" says a lot about the person using it. It says that person would rather not see a reality different from their own, because what they call identity politics is really just people not staying silent about the realities they live. Like it or not, this series is popular with transgender and adjacent people of assorting stripes because of the sheer glee Minami takes in enjoying being a girl. Like, it gets talked about in the trans discords I'm in. And you know what? There's an actual phrase for that: gender euphoria. I'm not saying that Minami is trans, but I don't know of any cisgender men who would enjoy being a girl that much. That said, Minami seems fine with being a guy, too. But people like that exist in real life, you know. The genderfluid label MidnighTea is using is just one of the labels used by IRL people with similar inclinations. Does it apply to Minami? Only Minami (and the author) can say.

tl;dr: Minami is super relatable for a number of people, and they'll comment on this.

@kajarainbow I never heard of "gender euphoria" but that really does sum up Minami's experience pretty succinctly. As to cisgender men, usually at most they're indifferent to the idea of having a situation like Minami's. Like at most they'll joke about locking themselves in a bathroom for about an hour and then not caring or seeing any point to the whole thing. When I see cisgender guys respond with deflection or hostility to the idea they too might wish they could have a gift like Minami's (even if they're regularly consuming gender bender manga) I tend to quirk an eyebrow.
And yeah, Akira's got it rough. I get the sense of someone who would have gender euphoria but is REALLY repressed about letting themselves experience it, even with the powers they have. That's a big mood for me because I've been like that for many years myself. (even my roleplay characters would try to play up a tomboy angle ten years back and I cringe when I reflect on it)

And yeah, like you said, this manga is gonna have a mixed audience and there's no reason we can't all enjoy it. No one needs to attempt to shame anyone from doing so. And if someone tries to shame you, block them and never ever undo it. No matter how tempting it might seem seeing "This post is hidden because you blocked (rando butthole)" and wondering what they could possibly be saying. It's nothing worth reading and never will be.

Still, Pretty much all discussion of this manga is valid and I'm way cool with people talking about typical "x is my waifu" or meme shitposting stuff as I am our more gender-identity stuff. Seriously, it's all good, there is no territory war. You're valid by default. No one's gonna jump on your back so long as you aren't using that one word.

Really I think it says more about people who would use identity politics for their own purposes, who would claim that all gay people are one homogeneous mass and that they own the definition, with any who dare to step outside of the pre-defined box and not submitting getting shunned and much worse.

Same for trans people.
Same for blacks.
Same for women with current day feminists.
Same for any ethnic or sexual minority you can think of.

From my observations those who use identity politics treat those they lay claim of ownership far worse than almost anybody else on earth if said people refuse to submit to their control and jurisdiction.
