fuck mangadex, this is completely unacceptable. paywalling comments is more than a dick move.
It's just beta testing for Supporters and Contributors. Forums are still usable, but they accidentally disabled the create forum thread button for non-supporters, which they said they will fix.

Edit: what I said was true; why am I getting striked?? I got this info from MangaDex staff...?

Maybe you're getting striked because what you said is NOT true?

It's not just the "create forum thread" button that's missing. You literally cannot comment anymore as a regular user:

The "reply" button is grayed out, the three dots only allow reporting comments, and there's no "Read # older comments" option either any more.

This only seems to affect newer chapters, though. It appears I can still comment on chapters uploaded 18 hours ago or earlier. The screenshot above is from a chapter uploaded 30 minutes ago.

Before we begin, let's start by establishing some facts first because this long one is for the forums.
the plan is to keep both the new comments and the forums alive at the same time, with each having its own purpose.
Title and chapter comments on the new system, and general chatting and discussion here in the forums (so yeah, lurkers, you can keep lurking as you've been doing up until now).
  • The plan is to implement a new comment system while keeping the forums.
  • The new system will be used for COMMENTS in [THE NEW COMMENTS]
  • The old system will remain to be used for DISCUSSIONS in [FORUM THREADS]
  • The sub-forum where the old commenting system used to direct users to is called Manga Discussions <- remember this detail, this is important
  • COMMENTS in [THE NEW COMMENTS] and forum DISCUSSIONS in the [FORUM THREADS] are separate in execution, but are the same in practice
  • Once fully set up, any user can use the new system, the old system, or both, for their COMMENTS and DISCUSSIONS needs.

Maybe you're getting striked because what you said is NOT true?
Which part of @detarameMangadex 's post contradicts what you've just said? Let's find out.

This should be obvious to anyone who read the OP and following post. The "Create Forum Thread" button is broken, and only certain users like [Group Leaders] can open [FORUM THREADS] at this point in time. Go to your nearest [Group Leader] to see if they can help you open new [FORUM THREADS] for the latest chapters.

You literally cannot comment anymore as a regular user:

What part of [THE NEW COMMENTS] is currently under beta test mode for Supporters and Contributors is not clear to you? Regular users will be granted access to [THE NEW COMMENTS] after testing and when Spam Prevention is set up and running.
Read EtherealNeko's post under UI 3-3

and there's no "Read # older comments" option either any more.
See OP's post. "Read # older comments" option links directly to that chapter's [FORUM THREAD]. Broken "create forum thread" button for regulars = no new [FORUM THREAD] = no "Read # older comments" option.

Forums are still usable,
The older chapters already have their [FORUM THREAD]s created, and you're able to use the forums normally that way. Nuff said.

A few additional notes:

A fix for this, that will allow everyone to start a [forum thread] is in the works; initial target date for that being released is 'Monday'. This was very much an oversight in testing.

-If you have your screen width set to more than 1920 pixels, for some reason, exisiting [new comments] don't display. To fix, reduce the size of your window to 1920 or less. This... is a very odd bug, and will presumably be fixed at some point.

-For chapters hosted on NamiComi, MANGA Plus, etc. - since the chapter link redirects to an outside page, you have to click the comment button next to the chapter entry to get to the reader (which itself throws up a link to the outside host) for the [new comments]; from there the 'new normal' behavior to get to the [forum thread] applies, including the need for [someone with permissions] to create that thread initially. Not sure this really qualifies as a bug, but it's a bit odd the first time you encounter it.

Another thing to note is that they are aware that there's no indication to tell you if you hit the character count limit for comments on the main site.

@shinya78, thanks for the clarification.

Just for your information, @detarameMangadex did NOT explain how you could "Go to your nearest [Group Leader] to see if they can help you open new [FORUM THREADS] for the latest chapters."

From our point of view, the comments were paywalled. Blame it on poor communication.

Now, if only Mangadex had a NOTICE BOARD or something where they could notify people of this. That would be such an awesome NEW FEATURE to add.

Glad it helped clear things up.

To be fair, this wasn't immediately apparent until some noticed the implications and started assisting/volunteering to create [forum threads] when new chapters started to pop up. For such assistance, The Casual chatting thread is the usual spot.

Ngl, they could've worded it better for those that didn't pay attention to the development update threads.
The April one had some staff clearing things up, but it was eventually locked mostly due to people immediately accusing the team of pay-walling the comments/doomposting. Further cementing the whole, "people don't pay attention to the news/announcements in the forums" thing.

The "new" Notice Board... is actually just the old Announcements Board, it does the job but barely, because evidently it wasn't enough. They set it up front because of the low percentage of people actually using forums, thinking the forums is not the ideal place for such announcements. Honestly, they could've added a link to the forums for full details on the important ones.
