Once again:

Old: Our way of life is hard and want it to change.

New: We want thing to change.

Old: NO! You are going to force you to not change and do the same things we had to do. Now sit here and complain with us about how nothing will change.
“TRADITIOOOOOOOOON!”

It's one thing to focus on their natural talents, but it's even more suspicious that they wouldn't want to cultivate secondary skills like magic. The adults of this society fear that the next generation will suffer like they did, unaware that they're contributing to that suffering by not allowing them to develop themselves.
and that’s why organisations like “Footsteps” exist.
If you don’t teach people basic math because your way of life doesn’t need it, then the people who don’t want that way of life are too hobbled to leave, and your society stagnates, all be you fear change.

This HAS to be intentional, right?
Is this artist a ger or something?! What with the alphabet, the “people without a land” narrative, the fighting change by a vocal subset of the old guard…

For a while I’ve been thinking that even when Iruma is outed as a human it will be “He went through the same training and trials as we did! He’s just as much of a demon as any of us! It doesn’t matter if he was born a human!” How could it not?! and now THAT sounds familiar…
Take him to the mikveh! He’s already had his “beis (gimmel, dalet, and hei)” din!

wow. that grandpa just told Nova he's worthless and is actively stopping him from improving. to the one disabled (?) kid in their clan.

i know the grandpa does think its the only way out, but imo grandpa is also doing what he can to prove himself right. if working for high rank demons would actually ensure the clan would survive, i doubt they'd be endangered rn + no mention of high ranking demons lining up to pick out their soon-to-be subordinates for the skills theyre supposed to be prized for, so it also kinda looks like he's gambling the future of the kids by cutting off extra education too.

where are those really obnoxious "my baby can do anything" parents when you need them, id love to see them fight grandpa

A delicate situation that needs a delicate touch.

This is one of those situations were we can say that "things aren't wrong, they just aren't entirely right".

I think the only truth is this... they are a beaten and bruised people, that have too much baggage to expect an easy way out of this predicament.

It hurts, but persistence and gentleness are key to bringing change in such a situation.

Damn that's super harsh view from grandpa. I get where he's coming from about "will you bear responsibility for the future of those children" and yes not all of the kids should skip ear training to learn magic imo, but they don't have to reject it outright. If they ONLY depend on their hearing then the moment they decline in their skills or something better pops up (like idk a magic spell), they'd be cooked either way.

THEY HAD TO PUT THINGS ON THEIR HEAD AS A SIGN OF RESPECT.
Am I insane?!
I made a couple jokes when this arc started but there’s so many places the joke works that it’s becoming more and more of an observation!

Okay but like...aint that kinda dumb?
Like, correct me if im wrong, shouldnt it be better to divulge into other talents than just the one your family is known for?
The fact that Nova exist proves that it will more than likely happen again, or even worse it can be forced upon one of them. Following the Elder's logic, if you arent able to use your talent your race is known for, then your worthless.
Its so obvious that Iruma will change the guy's thinking, thus allow the kids to start to learn magic again. Especially when Elder's point is just...stupid.
yeah, but i get where the elder is coming from.

my family have no legacy, but IF my family have an established business, let's say a restaurant that's been successful from my great-grandfather's time, i sure as hell will study something relating to it. maybe management, maybe cooking, maybe bartending. but something i can use.

now if between me and my many cousins(presumably) there is ONLY one or two who want to pursue something different like working the finance sector, for example. i'm sure the family elders won't mind. after all said cousin can, possibly, help the restaurant in 1 way or another. but if ALL the 'next generation' want to depart from the restaurant family business, that's another story entirely. because that means the perfectly good restaurant will go to ruin.

Legacy is a thing. like it or not.

It’s almost as if years of being treated as an inferior species whose only talent is hearing well would slowly warp a group of people to feel they can only be reliant on their singular talent.

Also topical news (will officially be announced Sunday so keep it on the down low)

Was act Age the series people loved until they found out the writer was a pedo and everyone worried the artist would never find work again due to being affiliated with him?

if so, this could definitely be interesting. The mob style Iruma spin-off tells a really good story through its improved art

In the past, we see Iruma kinda considerate and doesnt want to push too much off their privacy boundary (he didnt want to know Azz's magic genetic if its doesnt okay with him or 2nd year battler arc, Jazz's pet)

but on the other hand he kinda out of his way, if that person has some inner talent (Purson Soi's music talent, his master 13 seat placement).

I am curious on his action this time, will he be out of his way to change the elderly mentality, or he understood it and back off a bit and only teaching the disadvanteagous many-ears, or will he find pragmatic way of the two extreme ends.

It's not just dumb, it's ultra retardedly dumb.

All things considered, depending on personality type, it wouldn't be weird for Nova to try to kill himself.

He is literally being told that his race only has one usefulness while knowing that he's literally disabled in that regard, indirectly saying that Nova is a worthless, useless part of their tribe. What is he meant to think and do? No matter what he does, he'll be a liability to his tribe, according to the old many-ears.

That one commenter prev chapter was right and it was just boomer mentality or something like that. not being bold enough to go into other talents, you kinda get where he's coming from tho
