I can understand the elder's worry. The traditional way may be old but it is a well-establish, stable, proven road to success while the new way is unknown, full of risk. If we compare it to real life then this is similar to the situation where parent encourage their child to take a stable career like doctor, engineer and discourage them to chasing risky dream like becoming an artist, singer, etc. It is like that but way worse because there still people succeed in risky job in real life but for the many-ears, there aren't exist any individual that achieves success outside of the traditional way. Of course, if they never try they will never know but they don't have the courage to try.

as someone without a natural talent for magic (since hes human) iruma is the perfect person to relate to nova in this situation

They assume that there's no magic to enhance their hearing? Or prevent it from being sonic-bombed? Or to bypass silence magic? Or to hide in the shadows for recon? C'mon gramps, put a little imagination.

Okay but like...aint that kinda dumb?
Like, correct me if im wrong, shouldnt it be better to divulge into other talents than just the one your family is known for?
The fact that Nova exist proves that it will more than likely happen again, or even worse it can be forced upon one of them. Following the Elder's logic, if you arent able to use your talent your race is known for, then your worthless.
Its so obvious that Iruma will change the guy's thinking, thus allow the kids to start to learn magic again. Especially when Elder's point is just...stupid.
I mean it's kind of a gamble to put efforts into stuff you might be good at than the stuff you know you're good at. If you know where your talent is normally people would focus on that. The elder is just worried that magic training would not produce much results and end up giving them false hope I think. Though I agree his view is not the best there's some merit to his action

What a fucking dickhead. Does he not get the issue with telling a partially deaf kid that their people are only good for hearing?

The way this was phrased with the old man is just being nasty to Nova in the larger context of him having hearing difficulties.

Might not have yet been revealed but the elder is making me think that if the many ears get too strong and good with magic they will be scarring the higher rank demons due to the possibility of them becoming independent.

As a person with disabilities, I am also bothered by the fact that some people treat me with such insensible behavior as if they say I have, I don't know what. So hypothetically speaking I imagine how Nova feels as someone with a disability.

If the "elder" decided to make Nova the "leader," then how are the old man and parents defying the leader's wishes/orders (whatever you want to call them) not treason punishable by death? Off with his head!

I know it's not entirely that style of demon world, but now would be a nice time for it. Like how did we go from "let's gather our people, be independent, and make our own way" to "nah, let's continue to be slaves" in what feels like a few days? I hate people.

This irritates me more than Iruma's first admirer getting lost in the background for hundreds of chapters only to say she was into Iruma/Asmo shipping and disappearing again. I don't know why that tease irritated me with the zero payoff, but it did.

The problem is that the Many-Eared race have a very specific skillset that they're good at. Imagine a group of humans that are perpetually born with bodies weaker than most everyone else, but they do accell at intelligence, what would you say if the children of said group all suddenly decided they would really rather pursue sports? As much as ot sucks, you'd have to make them face reality eventually when even average people can't make it since it's their natural talents that will best give them a future. It is true that completely closing the door is foolhardy since it's always risky to put all of your eggs in one basket, but the fact is that Iruma didn't even bother to try to consider the balance between their strengths and weaknesses (something he should have understood all too well since he is only capable of magic because of the Ring of Gluttony and the magic contributed by others to it.) The parents and leader might have a lesson to learn here, but Iruma and co have a reality to wake up to to

As I said before, this is the wall that Iruma will have to overcome to accomplish his goals here. His aspirations weren't wrong, but the reality of the situation is more complex than Iruma gave care to try and understand. He was trying to teach fish how to climb a tree and not taking into account that they may not be equipped to do so. This does not mean that the Many-Eared race have only one path to achieve greatness through their most prominent skill of hearing, but a good leader and teacher needs to consider the strengths AND weaknesses of those they look after. Those fish may not have the ability to climb a tree like a monkey or a cat, but they have other means by which they can achieve great heights, and Iruma of all people should understand what it's like to use equipment to accomplish feats that should otherwise be impossible for him cough Ring of Gluttony and his grandpa feeding it being the only reason he can use magic cough

It is extremely difficult to change the customs and traditions of a culture and adapt it for today's society.

However, I believe that Iruma and Nova will somehow manage to change the mentality of adults and the leadership of the rabbit tribe. And the option of revealing that he is a fragile species in the demon world (that is, he is a human) is not an option.
I imagine they'll find some third path that allows them to learn the skills necessary to being on level with other demons while also learning to find other ways to apply their hearing skills to make up for the magical abilities they lack, or heck, Iruma could finally bring his fascination with Magitools into an arc to help them use tools to match natural talent 🤔
