As much as I like this manga and following in a long time, I feel like we are stuck in sidequests and firget about the main objectives. There is a reason why many people (inc. me) like the IF Mafia spin-off more than the original. I want to reach the point where the other characters learn that Iruma is a human. What actually happened to Delkira? What was that whole Gods stuff in the Netherworld? I know we can't get all this quickly, but the pacing could be better managed.
I'm on the total oposite. I've been needing this! Not to put down another show, but I've revisited a manga series a used to love
Blue Exorcist (or so I think I did) but I can't even remember why because it's so distasteful. The characters are always bickering with each other and it's not even fun, like their interactions don't bounce off well. It leans to much with meaningless exposition for the sake of the "plot". The worst is that the story tries to tell that the characters are friends and deliver shitty weightless dialog as an excuse for a power of friendship battle payoff. It was bad. The is no breather between arcs
(at least between Impure King arc, Kraken arc & Shimane Illuminati arc), just high stakes fights that even the characters struggle to take seriously because they are too preoccupied by fighting amongst themselves. It's mentioned they spend time together but even if it's not shown, the characters don´t converse like they've had, their interactions are weak. Sorry -
And with My hero the plot might be iffy and underutilized but the characters shine through it at least
But with Demon school Iruma-kun, the characters are so well put together here they make for a colorful world. I love the teachers of Babyls to begin with, the classmates are so enjoyable (I could name all of them ♪(^∇^*) Lied has become a fav~), even the first years were given enough in the story to be actually cared for!
The characters are important to the story, they are the ones that drive it! Iruma's character development is so well put together, it can be mapped with how a year has passed. The school life is focused, and I love it!
I'm a One Piece fan and I love character driven stories, it gives so much weight to the plot, because overall it's the characters you want to see go through it. Clara was a needed focus, this chapter tells how much she has felt left out, and I love Clara, she's fun and a silly, but really her concerns are real, narratively how will she stand to continue in the story between Iruma and Azz with the whole Demon king lore and God stuff like you mention? It's interesting.
I didn't think I would like Kerori at first, but seeing how she has impacted on Iruma's character, and brought up funny shenanigans to the others as well (Lied & Ameri), I started to see her appeal. Kerori is such a funny teen, she gives off a bit of snobby popular girl vibes while also not (seeing how she fails to be a typical teen girl but also a QUEEN in her convictions as a demidol) And she means well to her classmates as well as friends.
Like characters don't have to necessarily be useful in fights or in "lore plot", but just by being there they give impact to propel the story forwards towards others. Clara was there for Iruma to finally enjoy playing with school friends in his life, and you can see how it made him happy, as well as Azz to not be dull and feel alien by rank or academic status. And it made them to always look forward in school as well as to the readers. There is this wholesomeness to the series.
It gives almost an Undertale feel, like how monsters are not so different, they feel joy, anger & grief, and how important is spending time with them to come to understand the story and pave way a good ending for them and the story. Undertale's true ending can't be without the love of its characters.
Maybe it's a slow burn, but I'm into that (I'm a One Piece fan too)- But I really like Iruma human secret, I really do want him to share with Azz and Clara, but I feel there is still more to know about it, like why humans are considered an imbalance in the netherworld, or about how Iruma can go without mana exhaustion. So far I think it's well paced, but yeah I will endure the weekly chapters. I love this series so much! It's not perfect but I don't care because you can tell it's done out of love!
I swear Delkira is giving Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz vibes to Iruma/Steven living up to without the pressure vibes . mewfjkhskvh faliuf
