If you feel dissatisfied with how the conversation ended and feel like you still have to clear things up, make them stay and talk to them. You might need to shoot their legs so they stay, but at least you'll be able to talk to them and clear the issues you had. He shouldn't have let her go like that.

This is WAAAAAY better than how they show it in the anime imo
Because it makes sense, granted, he is a teenager but he isn't as sentimental immature to feel bad about himself for what some random girls talked about, but rather he overthinked, something that for someone with a lot of insight does makes sense and did this out of worry and empathy for her, even tho he still wrong;
