It's really funny comparing this to "Is It Tough Being a Friend?" as both lead characters want to stay background characters but how they approach it is very similar. Due to them being very much capable despite their 2 separate goals. Which lead them into this situation where they have to tell a lie to themselves to keep up the notion of that their "good deeds" don't turn into a more troublesome thing like love for them.

It's less conventionally pretty, but I think it has a unique kind of charm. The oneshot is nice too, if a bit more generic.

Lol, was that captioning on the bottom "As many times as it takes for that smile." on the last page added? Almost as if Takabi should win just because.
I admit Takabi has all the makings of a tsundere female lead... but has anyone else noticed she only has dere for Kimura? Objectively, she actually has better far better chemistry/connection with Kimura than any other pairings at the moment...
And IMO, our guy should just go for her already before he steps on the yaoi landmine Kawashima has created.

It's cause she doesn't have enough reason for Tsun with him....

Also, if she did, it was be too much of a negative.

In the case of other Tsundere characters, they are usually closer to the MC than the rivals and have way more interactions to balance out the Tsun.

She doesn't have any of that.

It's basically the case where the author only gives a little to the harem member so it has to be good to have any ship war potential.

The artist is different. That said, I can't say it's better or worse, but different.

This artist is more of a echi and hentai artist while the one shot had a cute love story artist...

So the styles have a distinct focus and you seem to prefer to cute love story style art...

It's so funny that the main character is so resigned to being an irrelevant "background character" that he's able to justify just about anything in his pursuit of fulfilling Manaka's unrequited love, because he believes nothing he does ultimately matters in the scope of "this universe".

I would love to learn more about WHY Kimura is so convinced that he's unimportant and nobody would or should ever like him. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate that he's already starting to change into a more meddlesome personality whether he realizes it or not. But we've gotten this far without any hints as to why he seemingly has no friends outside of this group despite being a generally considerate and agreeable guy. Surely there must be some flashback coming soon that explains his cripplingly low self-esteem.

That would be an interesting twist of focus.
Manaka and the gang getting the spotlight to try and figure out why Kimura essentially has no self-worth.
