The Merryweather one is an odd one. They are very open about wanting people of all types around the world to see their works.

Sounds like we may have a malicious korean company striking things semi-randomly.

Could they be possibly using AI detection to strike things without verifying what is what?
Probably not the first company to do that. If Merryweather decides to push back (and I strongly suspect they will), this could be an interesting drama to watch play out.

In case it was missed, I was talking about reports from 2025. It's been a year since the DMCA for those chapters. Would Merryweather pursue something now if they hadn't already pursued something in the past year?

I am assuming that uploaders that had their uploads DMCA'd would have been notified about this already, but maybe I'm assuming too much.

I know nobody will read this, but it's admirable how this piece of trash of a website gets worse month by month. Multiple premium tiers, ads, "social" BS no one asked for, complete removal of forgotten series that are not even close to being released outside of japan. Yet comments STILL aren't embed yet. I still think v3 was the peak of mangadex, everything went downhill from here with a good helping of enshittification.

Are you guys seriously trying to pull a crunchyroll and "go legit" here?

Yeah, I saw a video from them a while back where posting their comics on pirate sites was their strategy for getting popular.
Seems to be one of the stupid parts of the DMCA, that you don't actually have to verify that the work belongs to you to make that claim. While also demanding that counterclaims have to self-doxx.

The forum will still be here, at least for now, but the direct connection between the manga and the forum will be cut. A new “social-style commentary system” is being rolled out, so the manga discussion section of the forum basically has its days numbered.

Man I really hate the social style commentary system, I like it when it's forum like this, you can quote part of it, you can easily keep track who reply to who via quote, etc...

The AI detection angle is very plausible. A lot of these mass copyright strikes look like automated systems flagging based on keywords, titles, or partial matches without any human review. It's a known problem on YouTube too where legitimate content gets caught in the net and the burden of proof falls entirely on the uploader to dispute it.

If Merryweather does push back it'll be worth following. Creators with a clear paper trail and explicit permission to distribute their own work have a strong case, and a public dispute could draw attention to how easily these systems get abused.

Starting today users have to log in to use advanced search and users have to log in to read more than a few (10?) chapters.

what the fuck is going on !? THIS would have been worth mentioning in the development update.

Announcement coming soon apparently. New restrictions are to reduce scrapers.
usually announcements are done BEFORE something is implemented or changed. I cant help but having a bad feeling about this

what scrapers ? Mihon and other apps ?

It was mentioned, on both updates (point 7 from this month's and point 2 of "system" category from last month's)
"API Abuse enforcement"

does not tell about limiting readable chapters and disabling search features

come on for fucks sake. who is supposed to know what "API Abuse enforcement" means in detail

@Bartolumiu
btw, are you ignoring me (DM)? you can just tell me to fuck off xD
