A shame, I really liked the forum set up, felt very cozy and familiar to an old web forums veteran like myself.

I personally really liked having the comments separate from the manga itself. Having embedded comments honestly makes me less likely to become a supporter. Comments are the theft of joy on the internet. But I do want to support Mangadex but would honestly appreciate a way to straight up turn off comments if embedded are the new norm.

There are other sites where the comments only show up after you are done with the chapter so no spoilers or anything. It is a fun way to engage.

Having essentially 2 comment sections simply splits the community into half.

Just curious, once this feature eventually rolls out of the early access phase, does this mean members who were banned from the forums and not the main site, can use the new comments section too?

The forum will still be here, at least for now, but the direct connection between the manga and the forum will be cut. A new “social-style commentary system” is being rolled out, so the manga discussion section of the forum basically has its days numbered.

What the actual fuck??? Who was the retard in charge of this decision, this will kill all sensible discussion. It was the bright point of mangadex community, finally some forum-style discussion in the sea of disgusting modern 'social-style' communication, and now they intentionally remove it?? Who the fuck asked for this shit.

Fucking enshittification in its full glory, for absolutely 0 reason. Fuck, I hate modern UX designers so much it's unreal.

Let's call it what it actually is: a forced attempt at making the integrated comments the default by hiding the forum comments behind an annoying extra layer to make people consider ponying up for the sake of "convenience".

It’s currently unavailable because, right now, only people with permission to comment can create them. But it’ll be there; you can see it in this post by Bartolumiu.

Also, people without comment permission should be able to do it too. It was a mistake, and they’re working on fixing it.
