That can't be right since I checked comments by clicking the link from the chapter listing for 6 years before I made my first comment and I had to make a forum account at that point. If this is true then it is a more recent change and hasn't been that way for the majority of this site's existence.
Hey there. Long time user of the main site, been on it a few years just bookmarking stuff to read whenever. Never actually realized there was even a forum until I saw posts about this whole purge situation on another platform, so I came to check myself a couple of days ago. When I tried to access forum posts simply to read, however, it did force me to have an account for it which was automatically linked to the same email as my main one.

Thanks for the info. Did you ever read chapter comments prior to this?

there wasn't anything like that.
I did like that office lady yuri part of it and feel like this doujin brings up some interesting circumstances for the staff to consider. I understand the way these titles were removed was a product of the urgency with which they needed to be removed, but since there is discussion of restoring the titles sans chapters, I wonder if non-offending chapters could be restored.

So, thanks for bringing it up actually.

None of what you typed changes anything about inactive (dead) groups having their works uploaded. It's only a positive thing to have a dead groups translations uploaded.

Gonna leave off the other parts because it makes you look bad?
If you can't read stuff it's fine.
If mangadex wants to say they respect copyright, they also have to respect the copyright (translations) of groups who used to upload to their website!

MD will generally extend group locks even if they're past the threshold of inactivity if mods can make contact with the group and the group asks them to stay locked. But if the group simply disappears off the face of the Earth, which happens often enough, or the group publicly disbands themselves, then the group lock is removed.

If the group no longer exists, and nobody can contact a representative who can make decisions on their behalf, then that means the group no longer cares about their work. So why not unlock them?

Yeah, sure buddy. Prove it. Send a screenshot of the site that you took before you made either accounts.
Who the fuck keep random screenshots of a website around? The manga panels are images, if I needed something I grabbed the image directly and cut it down to size. Y'all are so obsessed with inserting a "outside agitator" narrative that you forget that the vast majority of this websites daily hits come from people without accounts.

Seriously, the way this whole thing is looking is like Tristan9, who came in after the big hack and played a major part in the MDv5 rewrite, was setting up NamiComi while making sure MD was re-written as a closed-source platform to prevent any clones down the line. Then, when the next crisis came about, he was conveniently positioned to "help" MD with legal issues, which just happened to require NamiComi to take over MD operations.

So someone, who wasn't one of the founding members, took over a community that didn't belong to him, then gifted it to himself wholesale, and is now posed to profit from it at the expense of the users, contributors, and scanlation groups that made MD what it is.

If I'm mistaken here, then please, have the MD staff issue an official statement as to the full extent of the MD / NamiComi relationship, how it's relevant to the current controversy, and what it means for the future of MD.
Tristan9 helped with MDv5? That explains a lot. I miss v4

Don't bet my soul on something that's not certain, lol.

An announcement? Probably. But I doubt they'll convey anything that actually explains the situation.

Demoting Neko? Maybe. Or maybe they just give her a new username and hope nobody notices. Or replace her with a different NamiComi employee. Regardless, nothing likely to result in any meaningful change.

About the only thing they can do now to actually rectify the situation is to be more transparent about their relationship with NamiComi and what it means. And then take back management from a for-profit corporation and return it to the scanlation community that built this site.
I doubt so, if im to guess whats a suppposed plan they had is, continue with the facade of fan-2-fan site while getting money from ads subs and censoring things "slowly" and shape it like they want in the end.
Pure especulation.

:pepehmm: there are at least 50 shades of goon. I am wondering what is the next shade they will come for, after loli purge. I remember the initial shade was "eww you are 11 why are you watching cartoons". So I don't think there will be lack of excuse against each genre.

Some weird people seem to think you and Yuri are "problematic " .maybe it will be femboys/crossdressing or just large amounts of gore. Who knows?
It would most likely be something considered" taboo" by the public and like normies, and then it would get taken down.

edit: this whole situation is also extra ironic given that MD was literally founded by a scanlation group that focused on loli manga.
Yeah, I was about to say. I was shocked when I happened upon an old manga penned by the same person responsible for Tsuredzure Children, and the first comment for the first chapter (incidentally posted around the same year I started using Mangadex by incidence, but without involving myself in forum discussion) was something like, "this marks the end of MD's loli hentai era".

I thought, "you mean to tell me that the backbone of MangaDex is cunny? The primordial soup from which this scanlation aggregator emerged was hardcore loli porn?" At the time, it was just funny (just funny), but now, it's ironic.

and that controversial staff response extremely ironic, like oh [heave] m a n

Yes, because of how the database was built, there is no good way to remove an account without causing a bunch of knock-on problems to come up. It's been coming SOON™ for about as long as we've been using V5 (roughly the beginning of 2023, after being down for about 21 months).
if that's the case then trying to go corporate and legal if those rumors are true, would be stupid before they fix the issue, because their site is accessible in the EU they would be in trouble with GDPR right to be removed, bad database design is not considered a valid excuse for holding on to data should a user want to be removed, so creating a legal identity in the form of a company that could face heavy fines from the EU would be a bad idea. (technically a piracy site would still need to follow GDPR, there is not an exception made for illegal sites, but i doubt the EU would bother trying to enforce GDPR on a piracy site, but them going corporate would make them fair game)

They don't need to go legal, they can keep things as of now in the grey zone and ramp up the monetization from donations, support, and ads, so they only need to make it a bit more ad-friendly.

that would be a smart thing to do, i was specifically pointing to the rumors of them doing a Crunchyroll and becoming a legal corporate entity as something stupid.
