MangaDex v5 Dev Suggestions: The Real Thread

Show updates of completed manga on Follows>Latest updates. For example, I have ReLIFE marked as completed and there was a new extra chapter that came out recently but it didn't show up on my personal latest updates.

Id rather not have that. Manga that i have completed get old chapters released that clog up the follows. You can already look at the latest chapters from completed manga through the follows page.

If you use scroll rather than pages the site works so much better on mobile. I pretty much use my phone exclusively.

Scroll? How do I scroll away from a manga page to the catalog? You would need to use the backwards key to go back to the previous “page.”

Especially if you’re on an iphone and on mangadex in safari click “add to home screen” to turn it into an app.

Im a new user for this website so i dont have much that i would want changed since im still getting the hang of it but it would be really nice if there was an option where you can choose how you want to view your chapter pages i.e. similar to the webtoons where all the pages are merged i to 1 page for the chapter, if someone likes to change pages by tapping or by sliding. Personally i dislike the tap option since im used to the other two. I hope at least the choice could get added. 😅

Go to your reader settings and configure it to your liking. For example this

view your chapter pages i.e. similar to the webtoons where all the pages are merged i to 1 page for the chapter

is long strip format which is in the page rendering options.

I don't use MD on my phone so I haven't messed with the scrolling options but they're there if you don't know how to get to the reader settings then just click a random chapter click the arrow on the right and hit the cog right beneath the groups name and bam you're there.

Check your settings. If you enable scroll rather than pages, it loads every page in the chapter simeltneously. This essentially makes it so that all you need to change is the chapter itself.

Did anyone suggest being able to recommend similar titles? It would help speed up navigation and discovery if you could see what other people recommend.
MAL has this but I don't think you need to include the text justification, just an ordered list of the most recommended titles would be helpful.

EDIT: I see in the suggestion forum it's a planned feature.... as of 9 months ago. Consider me a +1 then.

I don't know whether this was already mentioned or not (and I know it's a lot of hassle to consider) but it will be good to have a tracking system connected with mangadex. It may be MAL, Anilist or Kitsu. I personally prefer Anilist though.

I made a thread in suggestions but I am going to make a comment here just in case.

I would like it if you reconsidered the way the Block User function works. The message that appears when you block someone currently is
"This post was hidden because you blocked xxx"

Instead, it could be:
"This post was hidden"

I don't think showing the name of the user you're blocking is necessary of preferable.

I realize this makes showing hidden messages more difficult but this is a rare scenario since blocking a user is generally an extreme and last-resource measure. If you are concerned about not being able to follow comment threads, there could be an option to show the specific hidden message you want to see like in Reddit or Discord. Ideally, this could be up to the user as well.

In reader, image fitting working on each image separately on long strip mode. Currently It works only on the largest image then works on other images respective to the largest image.
Also would be cool if there was an option to view the ads in april fools to view. Scantalator or fans could make ads for new mangas. I dont know how popular it would be though.
Some groups release the chapters in their site early and some release couple of chapters in mdex and rest on their site. It would be cool if chapter links could be added to view chapters on their sites. And if thats not possible at least an update on the follow lists to show me there's an update.
A weighted rating system would also be nice. In current rating if 10000 guys vote a manga 9.5 and 1000000 guys vote a manga 9.1, the first manga would still come on top. So, im asking for an additional rating system that takes into account both the rating and the no. of users rating it.

If I can make a suggestion, it would be cool to have a integration of myanimelist for tracking (mark a cheaper as read on myanimelist when you finish it on mangadex) and the possibility to import a myanimelist library and the other way around as well

Please add a 3rd Carousel at the bottom for "New Updates" like kissmanga used to have that you can click endlessly to view the covers of the latest updates. It helps to conveniently see which new manga covers have new updates just clicking next endlessly with ease of access.

It's been a year since I left kissmanga, but I got used to the kissmanga carousel of endless click next on which new updates shows. For years of doing that it gave me this innate skill to tell if the Manga is good for my taste just on the cover alone. Helps to just see which has next rather than scrolling and scrolling and click next which takes long.

Also, the kissmanga carousel would slide in the entire section on the carousel (like slides in new covers) when click next instead of only moving one cover per click.

Keep up the good UX.
