Guess I’ll bring up this elephant in the room, hentai needs to go.
No, filter it out if you don't like it

@DocHobo posted:

My only concern for the update is making sure the legacy reader is still an option. The default reader doesn’t allow me to press and open pages in a new tab on iOS, which means I’m unable to save the image to crop it for a tweet or sending the whole page to a friend or whatever. Without the legacy reader, I’d have to screenshot the page, like some sort of barbarian
This is a fixable problem with the default reader (which is also going to get rewritten anyway), not a reason to keep legacy

Eh, your post contradicts itself. Sure, hentai issues are hentai issues, but your post opens with a misleading (I hope) sentence.

@Teasday By "we" I'm assuming you mean "the community?"

Speaking more in general, it'd be great if, when making moderating decisions, mods would stick strictly to the reasoning behind the decision.

@BestBoy No, I mean staff.

I don't know what you're trying to say with that second sentence.

@Teasday I meant more in terms of the tagging issues and debate, not the content itself. It’s tiring seeing the drama of people wanting more done with hentai, and there just not being enough manpower resources to solve the issues with the sfw manga side of mangadex to begin with. Rather than treat hentai like a separate type of content with a different tagging system and so on and so forth, just treat it the same as regular manga and sweep the problems under the rug.

You guys seem honestly busy enough, so please lighten your workload just a bit.

Edit: I thought I should clarify that I’m not specifically arguing that no pornographic content should be on MD. Just that the debate around it is stupid and should be tossed out the door.

Will we ever get a Tsukkomi function?
I think it is a pretty useful function because it can actually filter unnecessary post from chapter discussions thread. much like a containment thread...
Also it is fun.😀

That's not really an issue. There's relatively few of us in the staff responding to forum posts so I suppose it might seem like it's the same few people doing everything, but we have plenty of people making decisions and implementing different things that the staff as a whole can do more than one thing at a time.

No because none of us likes it

The thing I most want is a new category to sort followed manga by: "all caught up." Currently, I use "reading" for titles that I am actively reading, that have chapters out and I'm not done with reading all of the available chapters. I use "completed" for titles I'm done with, obviously, and "on hold" for titles that I've read chapters of, but am taking a break from reading for whatever reason. The rest of the sort tags are pretty obvious as well.
What there isn't currently, is a category for titles that I've read all the available chapters of, but there may be more released at some point. This could be manga that either hasn't had a chapter translated/released in a long time, or titles that get a new chapter posted every week. Ideally, this category would also have a "unread chapter available" notification, so you can tell more easily from the list of follows.

Actually, now that I go to my follows list and look at it, you can't tell whether you've read all available chapters or not, at least not from the "manga" dropdown button. That would be a nice feature on its own.

I hope those suggestions make sense, I can add more detail if they were unclear; PM me in that case.

I like it that Goodreads lets me create my own lists and tracks the date when I started the book. I'd like it if Mangadex can do the same.

@KobeisGOAT that used to be a feature, but then they scrapped it in favor of manually adding to reading list due to it quickly becoming one of the servers most expensive features. And that was probably when it was barely a few kilobytes to store that info, I'm scared to think of the megabytes of space per user needed now that the site has grown to the size that it is.

edit: I reread your suggestion and realize now that it's about reading start dates. Doubt it could happen unless servers become super cheap to run though imho. same reason as what I mentioned earlier though

I feel like it'd be wonderful if the progress tracker were able to hold decimal chapters. It's just a QoL thing, but it'd be nice to be able to track when I've read through 14.5 instead of just 14 or 15, for example.

The Random button under Manga.

When someone press the Random button, instead of showing a single manga maybe it could show multiple manga. A simple Detailed Format should do the trick, just show the image of the manga and the description of the manga, and the max should be 10 manga's.

This is just a suggestion.

@Plykiya Dang I didn't think of the data size issue. Then how about just compiling all those decimal chapters into one big chapter. I know that's a new strategy magazines are capitalizing in because rather than wait for a whole month, they'd rather release it weekly. It's just jarring when a chapter ends in the middle of scenes rather than a proper cliffhanger.

Don't know if this has been brought up before but I was wondering if there is a way to get comments for chapters on the same page. I know this has been rejected before, is it still unfeasible? What if it comes up as a pop up like how settings come up when reading a chapter, or in the new design of reddit or in the side bar, where the comments don't load automatically but you have to click something and then they load, or will that be too much work for little reward.

Also when I go to my follows and sort by last updated, the order is based on update in any language not limited to the ones i selected.

Also, I mainly use laptop and the resize options don't really work for me (as in not useful) so I have to go with the no resize option and change the zoom in my browser. The fit to container makes it a bit too small for me (also when you in/out of fullscreen it's annoying. and i dont like fit to width on laptop screen. But no resize is not without its problems, when different chapters have different sized images, when the same chapter has different sized images, when suddenly a double page spread loads and shifts the entire screen, having to always change the zoom to look at the double spread or scroll around, and then change the zoom etc. So I would like a bit more optimized resize option, something like mangarock or manganelo, or at least ability to make double page spreads automatically fit in screen.

Please fix the Next Chapter arrow on Ipad Air(the one on the right side). Its position is off and it becomes really hard to click on.

@KobeisGOAT Mangadex was built on the laurels that it’s pro scanlator, meaning that they just host the chapters and will never interfere with their uploads unless it grossly breaks the rules. So the group has to be the one to go back and remove all their chapters and reupload them grouped together.

I guess this wouldn’t be a request for v5 but for a extension for firefox/chrome that keeps track of all manga you’ve read, not just follows, and then saves it locally to a .txt file. This way it doesn’t clutter the servers and people can access and move it around as they wish.
