I don't think getting away with murder is going to reform serious bullies like them. They weren't just staying slightly mean things once in awhile. They were mentally and physically torturing the MC's kid on a daily basis. Two years may be a lot of time for a kid, but it's not a whole lot of time for the kind of positive personality change you're thinking of. If anything, I would think getting away with murder for two years would emboldened them to go further and become crueler

That manga turned into almost a battle manga with how it kept introducing new villains as if they where new teams of Ginyu Force to fight.
