Did we finally find something that not even miko can see?

I mean, I've stopped trying to compare Miko's power to the others', since it seems to be more a matter of different, not of more or less powerful. Romm can see auras, and he could see the Chou Sankai, so up to that point I thought he was even more powerful than Miko. But then again, he could only see a dark mist around Michiru. And yet, he could see the one in the tree well enough to identify it as the same kind as the one on Michiru?

So my guess is that Romm simply sees the old man differently from how Miko does.

More importanly, if the old man isn't Death… then who is it after, and is it a coincidence that it's always around Miko?

It was also present when Miko almost got run over by a truck.
holy shiet i totally forgot about this due to slow update

and since at that time Michiru’s tentacles also protected them from car accident, it’s pretty much plausible that mid aged man ghost is sort of death itself while Michiru’s tentacles are sort of guardian.

I'm gonna guess that, if that thing is meant to be some representation of death, maybe the idea is that to anyone who is able to see it it takes on a different form, a form that relates to their death. If you look at it too much you'll die because you are now fully aware of what will be leading you to your own death, and being aware of that, you lock yourself on the path to said death sooner?
I dunno, it sounds a little faulty when reading again, but that's the only thing that comes to mind.

Always love this manga. With some cool twists and cool implications.

I mean, the middle aged man is shown carrying a small sickle at some point, but I wonder… why does it matter that Romm caught on to it? If Death is absolute, it wouldn't bother whether some puny human can see it or not.
Unless it's like Final Destination. "Oh, you saw death coming and used that knowledge to avoid it? Well now you get to die in some cartoonishly horrific manner far worse than the original quick, if not still utterly horrific, way that was planned."
