Kinda funny most of the comments are just writing her off as a bitch when its been pretty well established the guy was a stone cold dick to literally everyone when he was younger. And he's still a coward to this day.

Fun for character growth if he can get his act together, but I can't say I emphasize with his younger self much at all. She said those harsh things to make him feel something. Anything. And instead of refuting it, bro just internalized it and tortured himself. Wacky.

I don’t get any attention from women either but some of yall seem to hate women. Both people aren’t right but he is infinitely more problematic, he basically had minimal development in the last 20 yrs. What if this happy go lucky version of him is ultimately just another mask like his old self?

It’s not her fault he is emotionally closed off to everyone. What she said is extremely hurtful but she is right.

Are we entering end game or is this getting axed?
Because this feels like the author needed to get the backstory before a wrap up in like a few chapters
Just such a random way to introduce her out of the blue.

Anyways this is kinda the relationship I figured went down with his ex. What I am curious about is that line about the father that is truly new information.

Good Riddance. MC was a piece of shit, but the ex was and is a piece of shit. Hopefully we never hear about her ever again.

I'm shocked they actually leaned more heavily in the "mature adult" spectrum of how this drama could play out though there was that obvious pettiness and vitriol you'd come to expect for melodrama.

The bigger concern is how many people are using this opportunity to go mask off and reveal their inherent misogyny in the comments which is a bit of a collar tugging moment. They both fucked up and have legitimate reasons to still be bitter about what happened in the past and it isn't like Yuko slinged mud at him and then walked off expecting him to chase her. She lashed out and then immediately asked for a comeback, ANY sort of response and he couldn't do it because he genuinely wasn't invested which was her entire point.

All the people calling her a bitch or saying "it was HER fault" are baffling. Both parties made mistakes but to frame this as her not being able to accept that Konishikawa has grown is purposefully misrepresenting her attitude in the present. She's still angry and would rather not interact with him ever again due to past grudges but it isn't like she wishes he would never be happy again and even points out that he has grown as no subordinate of his ever called him "wonderful" before and that he needs to be careful and not fuck it up with Misato. She even didn't let him pass the buck to her with the nonsense "You said I was never allowed to love" excuse he loves using so much to run away from his current potential love with Misato. He was using his ex-fiancee as a crutch to avoid the conversation he absolutely needs to have and she basically slapped that shit down.

If she truly hated him she would not have given him any advice. She recognized her own faults so she isn't oblivious to her part in things but she's well within her rights to be resentful and not want to interact with him anymore than she has to just as Konishikawa is well within his rights to shut down any conversations regarding his Father when she brought it up. She's a pretty great character and I actually hope we get to see more of her and maybe they can both grow past their bitterness and at least be cordial. She was a desperately needed dose of reality for Konishikawa to stop using the past as an excuse.
Damn the bias is strong with you

She got over it as well as anyone is supposed to: She got another marriage and a child. Konishikawa, however, apparently required two decades to reform himself into a human and then this last kick in his ass to finally even consider the possibility of moving forward.

I don't know why anyone would call Yuko a bitch when she's the only reason Konishikawa could actually become a human after his robot past and now she even made it possible for him to, perhaps, enter a happy romantic relationship. Yuko is basically a saintess.
This is what lack of therapy does.
(and I mean it, Japanese people avoid it for some reason)

I dont disagree with Yuko but the way she delivers her points genuinely makes me scratch my head. What a great character.

oh lord help her son, shes turning him into a someone who just has to eat disrespect like its breakfast....

Obviously theres alot of context we are missing just seeing the final words, which were brutal, honestly someone i love say that to me at the culmination of it all and i am walking out without a word too. Not to mention this is near 2 decades earlier where the societal perception were much stronger that a man working relentless overtime was his way to convey love for the family (and yes i know, i know, but hindsight is 20/20 and that was the general perception and still is to some extent)
i will have to re-read cos i cant accurately remember what was going on with his dad but i am going to assume dying/age related illness etc so the pressures of loosing him (despite what his impression is) has got to be stressing him out.
Theres also the fact that she instigated the confrontation, they could have remained silent and seperated but she inserted herself and threw shade first...
The difference between them is even though they both changed, he changed what was important and she changed how people perceive her because lets be honest she hasnt changed at all spitting the same rhetoric of 'you dont deserve to ever be loved again' and i am for sure calling it now that she will try to sabotage them again now she has Misatos business card

Yuko is Konishikawa's ex-fiancée. It sounds like Konishikawa's father objected to the match, and Konishikawa acquiesced and cancelled the engagement despite not wanting to do so. That's the source of Yuko's grievance.

She said some hurtful things as they parted and instead of engaging with her to get some sort of closure he seems to have disassociated and left in silence, while also internalizing her remarks.

Basically, both of them were making poor decisions in the moment, and the wound is too painful for them to try and address it in the present.
Where did you get that his father is the one that told him to break up with her?

It's Japan. If he had gone to therapy, the therapist would have told the old Konishikawa that he's a perfect human being: giving his all for the sake of the company and profits, disregarding everything inessential in life (family, etc). If his wife couldn't deal with a perfect Japanese man, then she's the faulty one and he was right to cut her off from his life. With the distraction gone, he can dedicate himself even more to the company.

Oh, so his ex is just a bitch.

Makes more sense now

Edit- I'm gonna catch flak for it. Half of growing up is figuring out "no, I don't have to interact with you. It's simply not worth it." Or doing the opposite when the relationship is worthwhile.

Childish bickering like this AFTER a breakup is NOT healthy. They both need to move on.
Okay, so she give him a firm lesson in reality, the one he want to escape and you consider her a bitch?

Man she do what was needed for him to go forward but she is a bitch....

It's far too soon to cast judgement on her, especially one this damning.

The whole time Konishikawa has expressed deep remorse about his behavior in the past, to the point of U turning his personality. This is simply the first time we, both Misato and the readers, encounter a person he hurt. We still have no idea what he actually did to deserve this level of internalized shame, I assume we'll discover the truth along with Misato.

Until then I refuse to condemn the ex-fiancée for keeping a decades long grudge.

I'm making an inference from page 9 where Yuko pointedly asks about Konishikawa's father, and the surrounding context:

I had thought that the comments on the next page - excerpted below - were also directed towards the father, but looking back it's actually about Yuko's words, so I could be mistaken unless these remarks are meant to apply to both situations (i.e., Yuko's "curse" and also the father dictating the son's marriage prospects). It still seems implied that the father had something to do with their break-up, whether it was family approval or perhaps he got ill and Konishikawa prioritized taking care of him over the relationship due to filial piety or something.

What a great chapter. I disagree with the kneejerk blaming of her, and also the opposite argument that he's the bad guy. They had a difficult breakup where both acted hurtfully to each other. And, all this time later, they halfheartedly tried to have a straightforward conversation, and it very quickly turned into a continuation of the same hurtful argument. This is a good backstory. It feels complex, and - for want of a better word - weighty.
