There's a difference living in a cave surrounded by rock and living in an island filled with nature resources

@Jeirien but first we'd have to have more tits in this series first. which it hasn't got enough yet.

@boag the problem is that everything "interesting" have already happened offscreen in this manga, all character development already finished, in Nouka he's op as hell but his village expand and it leave a sense of progress and you're with him from the get go, and get to know how much he screws with the power structure and how he reacts to different people and creatures.

if this manga was about the main growing up, meeting the dragon, finding the island, actually learning about the world with the reader i'd have no complaints about the manga being slow an a bit directionless, but now it's not just the salad of the manga world, it's old salad.

@boag at least the village grows, that's what i meant Nouka have its own issues but at least you follow the protagonist, nouka i can agree is salad, most of it's characters are flat since they are not given any development, the dogs are the most interesting characters, but you're at least given motivations of WHY things happen and everything builds upon things that have happened before.

here instead why does the dragon follow him?, how did he find the island in the middle of nowhere?, how come so much of the world just roll with him being so absurd, sure they'd not be hostile but even if he's beneficial people would either expect him to help them since for him it's easy or resent him for not doing it, everything and them some is hand waved so it just happens leaving no world building or characters to expand upon.

how big is his village?, is it well known?, is he well known outside of the area?, and transmigrators seem really common from what we've seen, if so what are they doing?, are they upsetting the balance of the world?, where does he gets the metal for all his smithing?

in nouka most these things are explained by him having the omnipotent farm tool, it's lazy but it's a explanation rather then "he just does"

My comment was because some people tend to say that X or Y story has "potential", which this one doesn't have, with all development building only around the MC and the fact that the solution, problem and the outcome is in a single chapter worsens the already poor way in which the "characters" are presented.
Nobiri Nounka is trash but does not waste time.

While I do agree with the fact most of the asspulls have no explanations, they take a back seat to character interactions, which is what this entire series seems to revolve around.
In this effort you could consider the MC the plot device or the farm tool.
Each new development has helped to grow not only the personalities of each character, but their interactions.
Something Nobiri nounka failed to do.

@Garn
the focus of this story seems to be strickly character based and how can you claim NN doesnt waste time while claiming theres poor character presentation here?
I defy you to name 3 traits in the NN characters that doesnt revolve around
Playing Games
Wanting Alcohol
Wanting to fuck MC

In this sense you can pretty much interchange any single character in NN without repercussions, which should speak loudly as to how paper thin the characters are.

The same cannot be said of Slow life, the cast has ballooned and weve come to learn different ambitions and desires for each character, and they dont revolve around the MC like NN, like i mentioned before, the MC is pretty much a plot device made to solve problems.

@boag eum...no? there is no interaction in this manga, it's either exposition by the side characters or the main just rolling over everyone since he always knows best, there is no discussion, deliberation or struggles and that is what cause growth, telling people they can settle on a island ensuring it will be fine without even hearing how many they are or what they eat is moronic, discussing prices with the merchant would have been great if it would have actually gone back and forth, but instantly he became offended instead for complaining about something and giving a counter offer.

and the ship captain was totally okey with someone he never heard about patch up his ship with magic he have no idea when it will fail and the ship will sink, it just screams half-assed, if the ship barriers are so efficient how come there are not more barrier ships around?, is it to expensive to make for normal people?, can normal mages not make barriers?

This reminds me more of a worse deathmarch then NN, just that instead of starting at the beginning you start in the middle of the story cutting away what makes the story flow, it feels super disjointed due to having no direction, no character motivation, no flow since stuff just randomly happens and nothing to compare to, and by having none of those elements the story is pretty bad.

NN handle people more like statistics then people most of the time, and the short format don't help. but it at least flow from one point to another rather then trying to be interesting in every way possible at the same time.

Please, somebody should tell the author how the human neck works. I'm pretty sure our necks don't work like those of owls.

there is no discussion, deliberation or struggles
First chpater alone, we are introduced to a vast cast, while the introductions are somewhat rushed and shallow we can see several traits.
his little brother is dutiful but seems to feel inferior to both his brother and his sister
the little sister is lovable and easygoing
The obvious harem cast all want MCs cock, so that doesnt count

ship captain was totally okey with someone he never heard
He heard from the village chief about the prodigy.

NN handle people more like statistics
True
but it at least flow from one point to another
you mean statictically?
Cause plot, story and lorewise its been crawling in comparison, it took around 16 chapters to actually show us there was more than 1 village around, in comparison we know theres several kingdoms, culture and politics in this story.

He heard from the village chief about the prodigy.
yes 5 minutes earlier, that does not inspire confidence.

what i mean is that one event flow into another, it begins with Luu fleeing into the forest of death to escape Tier and other angry people, Tier follow her, they think he is too much for them to handle so Tier fetch the elves one event flow into the other, the random encounters like with the dogs & Zabuton is rare, here it's all random encounters, people don't come to him because they've heard of him they just randomly stumble upon him, and if he's as powerful as the story makes him out to be and as blatant about his abilities people should have heard of him.
the difference is also that in NN he was alone in the forest he should not know about any diffrent kingdoms, hell he didn't even know the way out of the forest, so other kingdoms are irrelevant due to him being unable to interact with them and to begin with he was "subtle" enough that they had not heard of him either, once they heard about him they started interacting with him.
here despite their being kingdoms, why have they not come to deal with him?, but maybe they have....offscreen and that was is so annoying about this series everything relevant have already happened offscreen, there's no more developments to be made.

@Banarok I'd say there is character development, but it's on the level of paper gaining the depth of cardboard by my standards, and I consume mostly trash and popcorn novels because I'm so picky when it comes to quality content, a lot of people would call me elitist for that, but they're my values so it's whatever.

I think the overall appeal of this type of manga is similar to CGDCT, basically, it's fluff for people who aren't in the mood to get emotionally invested or think too much but still want some nice visuals, keep in mind there are some people who consume nothing but things like CGDCT, so their standard for good character development starts and ends with what that type of content has to offer.

Thats on the author, we didnt get any real developments in NN until after they finally met the Demon Lord/King.
Development in NN is non existant in comparison.
you can try to argue the situations were different, but thats still on the author to expand on the lore.

Ill put it simply like this, you can read the first and last pages of every single chapter of NN and not miss any developments, you cant say the same for this story.

@gaigous
Indeed, but it still has more development than Nonbiri Nounka, which is why i made the comparison originally.
