@NoTofu I think so too. IRL, special forces teams or tactical police outfits like C.A.T.T (stuff like SWAT teams or whatnot) don't take well to their members just going AWOL. They might have been within their (legal) rights to imprison Zeke (or worse) if they found out he was just chilling (with the woman he was supposed to kill, no less!) for a couple of years without letting them know. I think it's likely they gave him a "deal he couldn't refuse," which unfortunately entailed forcing him to be away from his family for most of the time.
