Uh, can I ask why Gender Bender and Genderswap are separate?

Also, is it possible to include a 'or' option for the tags? I used to just use the one tag for searching manga but now that gender bender has been split, I need to select and de-select if I want to browse the genres/themes.

How about (on PC) simply making the dropdown stay open when you hold Shift or some other key, which basically allows one to click multiple tags in a row?

@AbyssalMonkey I will agree with you. Isekai tells us nothing about the setting nor mood of the story. Just that we will or have transcended worlds. Normally a one time action, sometimes it is even an action in the past (didn't happen during the story, but before). Nothing else can be inferred from it than that, and there is no expectation for it to come up again in the story.

Proper genres, like fantasy, have their story elements throughout the story. Magic, floating islands, elfs and other mythical beings, in just about every chapter.
Cooking ones have food in most if not every chapter as well. Romance have romantic elements in most chapters.

And Isekai has "I came from a different world".... Their is no requirement past that. It doesn't have to affect any future chapters. They could have no memory from their past life, and no reason to pursue it. A few focus on it in several chapters, but there is no guarantee that it will come up more than once like a proper genre.
It most certainly isn't a genre.

@MangaDoll Genderbender is getting removed after today. It's just left in so that people can change the tag to either genderswap, crossdressing, or neither.

A couple of things to say after talking to people:

1. Personally I hate bootstrap-select, especially on mobile, and would gladly see it gone from the whole site
2. I'll look into making a toggleable display option for dropdown/checkbox tags at least for the search page
3. I'll also see if keeping the dropdown open while selecting tags is viable

Again, though, it's going to take at least a day or a few depending on my access to a computer.

I'm mostly thinking of transgender manga here, to which are a little more common these past few years. For instance

There may be a couple other edge cases (sci-fi/fantasy/speculative series with dramatic emphasis on non-standard third genders, that sort of thing); I assume the idea there is also to avoid both tags, or else pick whatever seems most applicable?

@Pokari Trans manga get nothing, they're too rare to be added as a tag. Intersex/odd gender stuff as well. I've gone through 400 or so genderbender titles and only 4 have had trans characters. MangaUpdates has a better search for it, people can use the MU links we provide to look for more trans stuff easier

For sex change stuff, neither tag really applies either

I'm so happy for the new themes section! Being able to look by what kind of story I want, and also blacklist things that would be triggering to my PTSD, makes it much easier to find new series.
Plus it helps me find WLW content that isn't incest porn, thank god.

I love more tags! Breaking things out into Format / Genre / Theme is a good idea but having all of those in one massive drop down box is no fun.
Genre and Theme seems to have some arbitrary choices though. Like how is "Mecha" and "Magical Girl" a genre but "Martial Arts" a theme?

I guess the difference comes from a theme becoming popular enough that it gains sub themes?

This is great! Honestly I'm not too fussed about the difference between Genre and Theme, it's pretty arbitrary. The important thing is that we have more searchable descriptors, which can only make it easier for people to find new series that they'll have a higher chance of liking.

Actually I think my UI complaints can be fixed by just adding a "Tags" page instead of having all of them buried in a dropdown on the "Search" page.
I bet that's already the plan.

What's going to be the process for adding more tags? I already saw a proposal for a "gyaru" tag.

The problem with using mangaupdates to look for stuff with transgender characters is that it doesn't have any way to search for new releases. It may be better to include it under gender swap so it can actually be searched for on the site.

As a bit of a warning, some browsers with poor JavaScript support may have trouble with the new tag dropdowns, but this is planned to be fixed.

Yups, This affected me in moderate scale. I just want to test new Tags and genre feature.
My Ram is 8GB, and Rose up and consume 25-30% SCALE (increase 1.7 GB). and My browser Not Responding for 7 Seconds
