You see the women captain ran away first, the situation is probably really worst out there, mean the captain waste his time fighting walm instead of retreat that's why he left ayame

He sent the captain away because his plan from the start was to exploit the wounded. Surrounding Walm would force him to splash ignis faatus without a concern, but 1v1 creates the moral dilemna of reducing collateral.

The commander chose the negative PR move to reduce the scope of damage Walm could do, and chose poorly.

From what I can see, yes. I think it was a "If I protect the healer, these two can get patched up." sort of trade. I am sure a WN/LN reader will pop in and explain it better though.

walm was gonna hit the healer with the fire and the commander had to use her ice to block it, i guess the reaction from both magics colliding caused it to explode and hit the other two heroes

I kind of get it for the dude since he rushed forward and might have just clashed headfront with the ice wall, but the female soldier was behind the caster so it feels kind of forced that she got impaled when most of the magic should have been focused on Walm's direction.
