I mean, he did face tragedy in his life, but for the most part, his current misery stems from his inability to move on from one setback. We all will have to deal with loss of our parents at some point, he's just had to deal with it earlier than usual - and we would all have to move on, because that's not the end of the world, and there are things to look forward to in life.
He has good looks, strong body (baring the head trauma, hope he recovers from that), good friends, kind uncle, at least some starting funds for his adult life, really good grades - his prospects are really good, all things considered! To give up all of that because he misses his mom - that's just foolish.

i feel like this is the antithesis of what the series is trying to say... while it's not bad to sympathize with haejoon, i dont think the intent behind his story is to feel like he's better off dead. death is the definitive end, and he doesn't seem like he wants to end it at all while he's in the house with his "mom". he's literally battling his guilt to leave his mom in his memories and move on with his life.

you can be so incredibly unlucky and go through so many terrible things in life, but there is a way forward no matter how unimaginable it feels.

the brain damage wouldn't be setting him "free" because he has a path forward already. he just needs time, support, and therapy to come to terms with his mom's death (which was like 10000x more painful bc he was indirectly involved with how it happened AND he can see ghosts. he's gonna need a LOT of fucking therapy LOL).

I feel like his state of unconsciousness is more due to psychological reasons than physical even thought yeah he has been hit many times on the head. It could also be an evil spirit because of the way it's acting but imo it's most likely his guilt that is manifesting that way, the guilt that he will have to carry forever of being the one that unfortunately caused the death of his mother.

I wonder if due to this he will lose his ability to see ghosts, maybe that will bring him more peace, but at the same time it would be a shame because in a way it's something he has left from his mother. Hopefully this experience allows him to move on and alleviates his guilt a bit, enough for him to be able to eventually be happy and move on
