"I want you to feel like you're going to die if I'm not around!"

"I am not that mentally unstable."

BOY, if this doesn't perfectly summarise their personalities.

Yeah, the whole premise of this is that Noa can never get any better unless she's forced into drugs and cognitive behavioral therapy, so just read it as pure comedy.
ECT or a lobotomy might work too
both would be fun to do at home :meguu:

I'm actually wondering if this is a quirk of the TL, or actually part of the original dialogue? Because Noa said it so straightforwardly, it felt almost out-of-pocket
I am not with the group doing this, but looking at the raws this is 100% accurate. She says 愛を 確かめ合お …? which is a common romantic thing for 'Shall we prove/confirm our love for each other?' And yes this is just as nudge nudge wink wink koff physically koff as it sounds in English. Finally look at that first Kanji, 愛. That's 'love', not 'like'.

So for a normal girl that might be an invitation to bed. But IMO Noa really does just mean pure love in her usual emotional leech way.

OHSHI...! I just realized. If you've ever played Baldur's Gate 3 or just D&D, Noa is a juvenile Illithid (mind flayer) literally feeding on Rihito's psyche and attempting to control his every thought and action. It all makes sense now and will make the ending really interesting. This is my new headcanon. I will not be dissuaded.

God, this is overbearing, I love characters with very huge or very hidden flaws as much as the next reader. It helps well with their redemption arc or allowing viewers to love that character despite said flaw, or even become their sole reason to actually liking that character. But seeing Noa have this ultra projecting vibe that she wants other people to act like her, really really peeves me the wrong way. And as I've said in every chapter I've commented on... Damn, Otsuka's really filled to the brim with crazies.

My brother in Christ, we are all gathered here for the thug of rope. This won't get better untill the final 2 chapters.
See you then.
real and true.

see you then~

Honestly I find this refreshing. Usually with a romcom there is at least some attempt to make you sympathize with the heroine, no matter how messed up she may seem, and then I can't help going 'awwwww'.

Nope, not this series. Noa is 100% failgirl disaster, don't want to be within 50 km of her, there's nothing appealing about her (well, she would be cute if she never, ever, said anything). And this series's commitment to that, never transforming her into a perfect Yamato Nadesico after 20 chapters as is usual for even the most disgusting, filthy, depraved chapter 1 heroine, is kinda nice to me. I really can just read it as pure comedy. It's COM with no ROM.
yeahhhh I'm glad nothing in the manga is deliberately written out to take her side (at least from what i've seen). it's somehow just getting away with 100 chapters of failgirl disaster lol. I mean apart of me wants there to have been a character arc where it gets super dramatic and for it to push her to get diagnosed with something psychiatric, etc— because I can't imagine her changing without some level of medication... but i guess that's another story since it'd be such a change of tone & pace. i guess it's how it could end...

IMO the problem here is that we've been trained by romcom manga to want to like (or love, or lust) the FMC no matter how awful she is. And this manga isn't playing along with that. You're not supposed to like her and that's okay - but it flies in the face of everything we've been indoctrinated with by all the other romcom manga. And the author kind of smirks and plays with that by making her look like a blowup sexdoll.

So like above, we've been trained by countless manga that even a total failgirl can and will be redeemed but I Want to Believe this is one manga where she never will be because it's hilarious. That would be a terrible thing to say about a real person who should be put into therapy and on medication, but she's just a manga character so it's fine. Suffer for our amusement OH hohoho!

Okay, and really I just want Rihito and Hayase to be free to live their best life together without this emotional vampire. If this ends up with her somehow getting 'fixed' and hooked up with Rihito it would be a complete betrayal of the entire rest of the manga.

Noa Senpai was born to be a mother! Rihito kun needs to put a baby in her IMMEDIATELY!! She could nurse Japan’s entire next generation with her tiddies alone!!! Make Shinzo Abe proud!!!! :qq:
At this point rhito has seen all the most insane unattractive bullshit out of her I wouldn't be surprised if he's become gay or at least can't get hard over her

It will be very funny if she just keeps getting the short end of the stick to the very end of the manga... she deserves it by this point lol. Especially in the perspective with how people romanticize having a menhera partner, and this manga existing as a very realistic outcome if you do follow through with dating an unmedicated person with a similar character as her. I mean it's also a litmus test in how many times people would still say "would" after every chapter too.

I do agree that it should end in spite against her to some degree after being this deep into a series with her not really changing. Maybe Rihito x Hayase sailing, or Rihito outright rejecting her after she realizes her feelings or whatever, but it should end with it getting through her thick skull that maybe she should get help and it immediately ends after that lol

But it would stay true to the broader romcom tradition if the leads get together.
Plus, for me personally, if they don't get together or they get together with other people by the end it really will feel like a giant waste of time. Original, but a waste.
