I know it's a popular trope where everyone (or at least a lot of characters) in a fictional setting of a comedy story has to be assholes for comedic value, but in Oishinbo's case, it often just falls flat, mainly because the story often pits Yamaoka in such a shitty position by others, whereas others somehow don't suffer as much like him (and when they do, often don't get shit on as much as Yamaoka).

Meanwhile, on the historical aspect of radishes, originally I thought the manga was being inaccurate for saying that daikons (at least the ones East Asians grow and eat) already existed back then during Ancient Egypt and Greece, until I realized that all radishes are actually the same species (Raphanus sativus), it's just that the variants that are different (var. longipinnatus for daikon, var. caudatus for green radishes, etc.)
