I'm just gonna put this down here.
I enjoy stories where bullies get what they deserve, even including ones where high schoolers get straight up killed, but this is just fucked up for the sake of being fucked up.
In a lot of cases there's zero reason for the character to be a piece of shit, a lot of them even turn out to be assholes because of their extreme positions of privilege. In contrast, this girl was forced to grow up with a "mother" who would abuse her mentally, emotionally and even physically just for not being absolutely perfect and it got to the point she developed a psychotic obsession with doing anything she can to please this shitstain of a human being. From this chapter, it's also clear that she had nobody else to turn to as her own aunt is clearly also a piece of shit .
So we're given a character that's a mentally, emotionally and physically abused, young teenage girl. Does that excuse her actions in trying to ruin someone else's life? Of course not, but the context is still worth something. There were various different routes it could have gone. For a moment, we were even shown a possible route where the main character could have boosted her own PR by pitying and saving her own enemy who is revealed to be a victim of evil in her own life. Getting the mother arrested could have led to her getting the mental rehab she needed to lead a better life. I would have even been fine with her just offing herself and finally bringing closure to whatever suffering she was going through. That to me would have been a more satisfying outcome than this fucked up ending they gave her.
Whether it be heroes or villains, nobody likes to see characters, who are already drowning in misfortune, continue to suffer such a terrible end after the fact. I feel it's especially so in this case where she didn't even manage to accomplish anything tangible that would have called for such punishment. She wasn't even bullying her classmates, the most she tried to do was spread bad rumors about the fmc and that didn't even work. Besides pushing another little girl when she was a kid, what did she actually do that would have warranted such a horrible end?
Years of piled up mental abuse and trauma with a final trigger caused her to ultimately have a mental breakdown to where she ran out with a knife with intent to harm someone. I'd say she should be arrested and made to go through rehab to get herself right, after all, she is still just a 17 year old girl. Instead she gets kidnapped by a stalker that's been after her since back when she was an even younger girl, thrust right back into the hands of evil, helpless and in a mentally broken state. Like, what the actual fuck?
Anyway, the tldr is that some things are just too messed up for even someone like me to read and this whole situation with this girl is definitely one of them. That left a really bad taste in my mouth and I don't feel good about reading this any further because of it. If you managed to read through this unnecessarily long essay, then thanks I guess, I hope it provided some value or perspective.
