I could see the country poaching puppetry mages from other countries that don't appreciate them or something, but certainly the war machine is bottlenecked if that's their only strategy.

It's possible that those are just the ideal use of their bombs, but grenades and primitive guns are also on the table.

really grateful for this pickup considering what's happening to Utoon and Reset.
is something bad happening to them?
their tls and everything about them was always absolute dogshit so never bothered to read them or keep up with them after they got rightfully banned from mangadex for being scum
would be good to know if they are finally dying off
This!! Is Utoons finally dying?! Will we never have to hear from them again?!:wooow:

Damn girl. I thought Arte was going to start with something simple and maybe ... less violent at first. You know, maybe just to act as a distraction or bait or to cause confusion... But nope, she just went and chose full violence right away. That's my girl alright.

I'm excited to see the father face his own mistakes. He can't even try to reframe it as 'his son' achieving this (so that he can earn some glory too), since it'll be clear to everyone that he was booted to a inhospitable land, and because he already has his own title and new family name.

... Surely, it's only a few more chapter now. :meguusmug:

@jaes9898 @gorore

As far as people can tell, they are currently imploding and are unlikely to come back. They've been offline for a week(? my sense of time is bad these days). Visiting their "main page" implies their server provider is owed serious money. The current statements that others have reported, is that after Utoon and Reset Scans merged, the leader of Reset absconded with ALL the money and everyone else have been trying to pick up the pieces and pay translators first. Everyone who had bought coins is presumed to be SOL, and as such everything is a mess.

Like all internet drama, it's unpossible to really confirm the specifics with anything I would accept as real evidence. But there are several reddit threads about people wondering.

Might have the mindset of "ends justify the means" and killing Civilians is clearly a terror tactics since this attack is a stepping ground to a full on INVASION of the Kingdom! Of course short sighted uncaring fools don't grasp the ADVANTAGE of "not targeting Civilians" for the more benefitual "terrorizing" (which ends up causing a waste of resources and long run invites more problems then it solves)

And I feel this may be the Manga artists fault with all those Wyverns then it is the story to be honest
Good point on the manga artist being at fault, very possible.

For the bomb, I can see some benefit in equipping the puppet mages with a powerful non-magic weapon, allowing them to focus their mana into puppetry instead of personal shield or attack magic. In a pinch, you can even throw the bombs with a trebuchet or similar, forcing Van's kingdom to use a disproportionate amount of magic to even counter an airborne projectile (a problem that IRL current military is still struggling with). Anyway, bomb is definitely useful and adaptable. Main problem lies with the wyverns.

For the wyverns, I can guess maybe their country just happened to have a facility suitable for breeding wyverns due to intersecting circumstances (like a decently sized city near a mountain tall enough to sustain wild wyverns as breeding stock, maybe the trick to taming wyverns is raising them young). Finding suitable terrain and location for a new weapon facility requires some luck and effort, but there are plenty of workarounds.

What I suspect is the main reason may be political/cultural. Wyvern threat is well understood in Van's kingdom, so I dont believe the king never considered raising wyverns. Most probably, due to how versatile aerial warfare can be, Van's kingdom's nobles are against it because they're aware it would erode their leverage against their king's, but are unable or unwilling to fund its research themselves.

Honestly something like the Bomb was likely NOT EVEN CONSIDERED cause of the "Magic is everything" mindset! And they don't NEED that many Wyverns! All they need is a few to FLY at heights unreachable and just DROP! The Bombs are also hard to see till their TOO CLOSE to really REACT, and any SHIELDING would be spread out and UNABLE to adjust to where the bombs will be dropped! It's the perfect weapon......if Van never existed that is!

Van has SO MANY MEANS to deal with Wyverns that the ADVANTAGE OF THE SKIES doesn't work! Maybe if they fly in Quick and drop BEFORE any defenses using Van's stuff is set, they might have a chance! But nothing stopping a STRONG Earth user like his Butler from using the Earth as a makeshift shield! Or van creating BETTER countermeasures for the Bombs themselves

Otherwise if Van didn't exist (or his father got his wish and KILLED HIM ON THE SPOT back in chapter 1) this would be where the old man met his end! And that would be DEVESTATING for the Kingdom as he was the MAJOR FORCE BEHIND keeping the Empire OUT! The loss would have been felt and once his territory was taken, the Kingdom would have been at risk of a LONG defensive war at a weak pointt (In this scenario, the King is NOT in the region with his entourage as he's only OUT HERE because of Van! The Empire had SHITTY LUCK that he and his personal came out to this area RIGHT as they launched their sneak attack! As now the Kingdom is AWARE! Double so on the shitty luck with how Van has the perfect counters that you KNOW the King is going to want Mass Product so effectively the "maiden voyage" of the bombs viability for the empire worked perfect.....and then ended up being made irrevelent in the same time frame it was used LOL!

Tbh unless Van invents the proximity fuse, hitting a flying target with ranged weapons is quite hard. Even then, the wyvern riders would eventually learn to fly low before striking, so that the trees and terrain block the ballistas' firing angle, mirroring SEAD tactics from our world.

Even with Esparda and Van casting shields, the riders can still attack from different angles simultaneously, making the shield moot unless it can cover the entire anti-wyvern formation. Best Van can do is prepare emplacements with overhead protection, at the cost of firing angles.

You make great points my friend......now here's my major counter

All you said COULD happen if the Empire doesn't just dismiss the bombs and bombing run idea as "pointless" since "it failed!"

That's kind of the risk that happens when something FAILS on it's "maiden voyage/Test Run" Since the Empire lost pretty HEAVILY here. The idea might survive and what you said could be implemented ONLY if they give it another chance and use your idea, which might be scrapped, and if Wyverns and/or Puppet Mages are not so uncommon! The risk might not be made (if however that strategy was used AND showed results which as you pointed out it would! THEN it would be considered, but that would have to happen by mere ACCIDENT as these things usually do LOL)

Odds are as said, the Empire which will be too busy licking their wounds by the EPIC FAIL of this operation that had to take years, resources and ALOT of patience moving everything around without the Kingdom noticing (as the King said the chapter before when they learned of the invasion, they thought they kept a good eye on the Empire for this, only turns out the Empire lulled them into THINKING they weren't preparing for something!

In a WHAT IF (Van is killed by his father), it's very clear things WOULD have gone their way here! Van's dad dies here (good karma even IF he is a "Father to his men", he still sucks for how he treated his sons, though that's the dark side of the mindset of those who take "Meritocracy TOO SERIOUSLY" especially if you get an idea of WHAT THEY VIEW AS MERIT which as he made clear before this invasion, he didn't think much of Van, only giving him as he saw, "credit for having good memory, but that was it!" And as you learned with why EVERYONE ELSE including his former Butler were willing to follow him! It's likely in his mind, Van didn't MERIT anything because had he gained the ELEMENTS, most specifically HIS element of Fire! Then maybe he'd have changed his mind, but he ended up with Production Magic, a Magic viewed as USELESS for what my counterpoint illustrated, once failure was seen and continued to be seen with Production Mages, the entire Magic was deemed POINTLESS AND USELESS! No studies, NOTHING. It's considered DUD MAGIC! But for Van "who has good memory and past life knowledge of the modern world" his "Experimenting" allowed him to effectively turn it into a VERY OP Logistics Power! I say that cause this isn't a power for FIGHTING which is limited by how you set it up, and by FIGHTING, I mean "direct fighting" like how the Element magics are used! I mean look how Van helped Aria utilize her Puppet Magic, create a huge golem doll that she can pretty much use as a "Medieval Mecha!" This could revolutionize Puppet Mage's in combat situations! They essentially have themselves MECH PILOTS if they could repicate the Giant Dolls which I believe could be made even WITHOUT Van's Production Magic LOL) and they take over the region. They continue to utilize the same tactic, if not EVOLVE IT to avoid countermeasures being made. That explains abit more on the LOGICAL SIDE of "attacking the fleeing civilians!" The LESS knowledge of HOW they took the fortress and region gets back to the Kingdom, the better for them! Guess the Ethical backlash later was considered ACCEPTABLE if it leads to them conquering the Kingdom BEFORE a countermeasure could be formed!
