Normally, I was only doing like 6 different fonts. mostly using Comic sans as the main characters speech while mob characters had a different looking one. But with the sisters, I tried using different fonts which were in different parts of the list. but after doing like 70+ manga chapters from the ones I do, ya get use to it.

This chapter, #93, was 34 pages long. which took over 12 hours to scan in and translate. (lost track after 10 hours hehe)... There are some non-bubbles text I didn't translate cause I couldn't read the handwriting... when I try to decipher then, that is where some of the time takes. but on average, a page can take 10 - 15 minutes to scan/translate. but some were doozies.

The cleaning / typesetting was like 10 - 20 minutes a page (depending if I fixed the graphics by taking non-bubble text out)... but on average 10 minutes or less for a page.

Just for reference... I started off using the basic Paint program that came with Windows when I first started cleaning/typesetting the manga. But centering text was really impossible (wasn't an option to automatically to do it)... A few months down the line, I switched to Paint 3D in Windows (to get the Centering of the text)...

I still use Paint 3D, mainly because I know where I need to click to get it done faster. But when I do the text with the Halo effect around it to distinguish text on a non-bubble, I will use Photoshop. I know, I should just use photoshop, but it has been so many years since I learned to use photoshop, its just a pain to relearn it again hehe. Plus, I'm using a very old version of photoshop and my computer wants to hassle me cause its so old. (Can't afford to buy new version, reason why I'm using Paint 3D, only get a little support from a few people)

sorry for the long post. I hope it gave a little insight into what I go through. It probably covers why Procrastination is a double edge sword... or raisins why I take a little longer to release some chapters hehe.

Photoshop these days want you to subscribe to their services, right? So, you’re right, it’s probably better to save money and use other tools you’re comfortable with.

As a general rule manga is typeset with Wild Words or a similar comic-style fonts (that aren't Comic Sans). Stuff from Blambot or Comicraft (or ripoffs) are also very common.
As for typesetting, I think most typesetters rely on Photoshop, it's simply more effective. The pirate sites probably still have versions of CS3 or such that are more than enough for typesetting purposes.

This font guide is ancient but back in the day they were some of the best scanlators around. Ironically it recommends against having a different font for every character.
