The logic of this dud truely is astounding. Doesn't like the cost of defending his borders from demon beasts so attempts to quietly kill off the nations saint because she costs him money and is popular more with his subjects and subordinates then himself. Because the cost of maintaining his borders is high, He feels it's easier to just raise the banners of war and steal it from other nations.

Why are we keeping this dipshit alive again, and not just decapitation the leadership, then making them subordinate nation under their own empire?

A japanese manga.
B Regicide is alot harder to justify to people even if the king is a dick, he still has good publicity.

History is written by the victor. If the previous beloved Saint were to air her grievances to the conquered nation as to why their King was killed, and the neighboring nation took over control. I doubt there would be much unrest amongst the general population.

Sure some nobles might try For a power grab, but the worst of them would likely follow their kill king to the gallows.

Again this is a japanese manga, this is all too common even if other tactics should be taken.

History is written by the victor yes (as i pointed out in another manga's comments section, alot of kings get bad raps mainly because of modern views on monarchy and tactics, or losing wars) but i'm pretty sure neither the mc nor the saintess want to rule via fear, it's much easier to imprison a noble than to execute them in stories like this.

Even back in the day of Alexander the Great, king and emperor justify their expansion. This isn't as simple as "history written by victors".

The author better not toning Ruby down in an effort to make her redeemable. I've spent so much energy in all of these previous chapters being angry at her, and I will not have that be undone!
I was more worried on how Ruby going to factor rather than this whole fight.
In one side she should be fully aware of the extreme shit that she used to send the MC. In the other side, she still sound very arrogant and apathetic about his struggle with her request going as far as pretending that no one wants to work with her over her requesting the impossible -case in point is the Elf she almost killed. The guy was a war hero and she still scoffed at his remarks and still thinks poorly of the MC-.

Only time will tell if she is going to be redeemed or not!

Where's all the folks who thought Ruby was the gaunt, little girl in manacles??

Also say "history is written by the victor" to all the French Revolutionary leaders who met their end on the wrong side of a French Revolution guillotine.

Of course she listens to what he says. She just dismisses it as the nonsense it is.

I mean, he's not entirely wrong...

That's what he's not right about. She didn't cause him to go out of control. That's on him.

And then he just punches her away. Is that it?

Ah, yes, the danger sign. Because we wouldn't understand that otherwise.

I doubt there would be much unrest amongst the general population.
Historically, what caused unrest wasn't shifting leadership or even shifting nationalities. People didn't care too much about that. What they did care about was what affected them. Taxes, drafting, and war coming to their doorsteps.

This was the perfect moment to get rid of Ruby getting crushed by the big monster
Nah. I want her to suffer more.
