I'm still annoyed at how rushed the ending was. I completely get what the author was going for, but it 100% feels like the author ran out of steam for the series and just wanted to end it.
To break it down, what im getting here is:
- The husband is apparently a fucking terminator and was able to survive THREE stabs in extremely vital areas of the chest
- Somehow, someway, Gomi + Yumezora get out of the hospital even though she has visible physical marks of abuse (i think at least its been a hot minute since i read it)
- Somehow, some way, the husband gets out of the hospital and has the strength to travel quickly, the timeskip didn't feel that long, maybe im wrong on this one?
- He tracks down GomiZora in an obscure field of flowers, somehow outdoing the police despite having absolutely zero clear leads as to where they could possibly be
- He somehow also manages to pull a fucking solid snake and sneak behind them BOTH, in the MIDDLE OF AN EXTREMELY EXPOSED FIELD with ZERO coverage
Listen. I'm all for the "haha gotcha" endings, but if you wanna do that shit holy hell it has to be done RIGHT. With manga, the obvious rule is that there needs to be a certain level of disbelief. You can't read every single manga series expecting total realism with every single series, and this one is absolutely no exception. Well, with this, it feels like a genuine, blatant copout ending that truthfully just makes zero fucking sense. The post stated from our lovely translator says that the author intended for this ending to happen, but I don't buy that for a single second. Maybe they
intended for it to play out this way, but with better pacing?
It's stupid to try and even comprehend as to why this route was taken, and im sticking with the belief that the author simply just ran out of time, will, and energy to continue it any further. It's a real shame, considering everything else was GENUINELY interesting. If this went on at a proper pace, we very well could've had a second oyasumi punpun, maybe.
