So far, everyone's been fixated on this happening at all. I personally struggle to empathize with the strength of the reactions to this, especially when this was telegraphed in the previous installment.

That said, I think everyone's missing something crucial: this is happening to Hanabi because she's trying to be a better person. The blackmail material at hand, as far as either her or Kirigaya are concerned, doesn't have anything to do with her, but with some other third party she's spent most of this manga feeling slighted by. If she didn't care about Souma, and didn't care about wanting to not be an asshole anymore, she wouldn't lose anything by doing nothing.

I totally get the point... And still find it too fucked up that this happened at all.
You said it, she is finally thinking about others wanting to redeem herself, but instead of getting some sort of more level headed justice she is forced into prostitution.

The video ended up in the hands of a former lackey of the girl now being prostituted, because said girl gave that video to said lackey so they could both laugh at it, at a time when that girl was still a heel.

It's not as if it's her fault she's being prostituted, but the circumstances of her being able to be blackmailed were unwittingly set up by her.

You know, maybe the lack of strength in my own reaction is partly to do with my general lack of expectation for this story. I never thought it was that great, to begin with-- just moderately entertaining, and not even enough to consistently capture my interest for a while until someone mentioned this development in another thread.

I was under the impression of her having shown him the video and that being it, guess I most likely was wrong. I just really don't think she would hand out videos of her lifelong subject of twisted affection to others willy-nilly but whatever, cba arguing characterization with how the story is going

This chapter did cement her "going along with it" (she absolutely could've prevented it) as a form of being atonement and showcasing her twisted love for MC but it just is so weird overall considering the circumstances and depravity.
But I absolutely stand by her handing out the video being completely out of character and that it being a video of a child doing child things is not enough to tank weeks of being gang raped without fighting back (with a 100% chance of winning) even with the mental damage from finding out after fucking around. Might just be me, tho.

I liked it before even without expectations and a lacking story because it was going steady without wanting the whole cake. This is just greedy.
